Put your gear on a junk set of bearings and add a flapper wheel. Just take breaks to keep the heat down. It's pretty easy to do. Ramon had to redo his after a shop did it, and it was a breeze. You don't "have" to pay for the turn down. The shave kit is barely $100 more than just a diff cover. Ramon posted great tech on how to make the cut in his thread. Then just burn it in.
