1971 Bronco Crawler build

I had to sell my last crawler,

a '75 EB last Spring due to a divorce and layoff from the oilfield, but I am happy to announce that I'm back in the game now. I picked up a 1971 Bronco right before Christmas. It's currently got a Wagoneer D44 and a 9" under it, 302, 3 speed column shift and a d20. The original plan was to put some chromos in it and fix the :homer: suspension but now the plan has.... slightly changed. Here's some pics of when I first got it, and the front suspension setup.

(my main wheelin' partner, my 8 year old daughter that loves rock crawling)

Decided on the paint scheme I wanted to run, and Spray bombed the passenger side to see how it looks.

So, after a week or two of researching options for the suspension, figuring out what tires I wanted to run, and what Chromos I was going to buy, I decided to go big or go home

'05+ Dana 60 and Sterling 10.5 with 5.13 gears. He also sold me the Radius arms which I'm going to use. I'm going to order a set of 14" or 16" Swayaway 2.5's in the front, and I'm thinking about using the existing 3 link Wishbone that's under the front in the rear. The only thing I'd change is to put a Johnny Joint on the axle side upper. I'd then use the coils and shocks in the rear to save some money. However for now I'll probably just run some 57" or 63" chevys to get the stretch I want for cheaper. I'm going to end up stretching the back probably close to 10 inches, and the front somewhere around 4 or 5 inches. I'm going to run 42-44's with a PSC full hydro setup. I need to stock up on sawzall blades........

Man the P.O. of this thing LOVED bondo. Finally got the front fenders and grille off, and started on cutting the inner fenders out.

Hopefully tonight I'll be able to finish getting the front end completely stripped down, and then it'll be time to start yanking the D44 and 9". I need to figure out what these things are worth, they're stock axles with 4.10's. the front is actually out of a wagoneer or something as far as I can tell and is a little wider, something like 61 WMS while the rear is the stock 59 wms.

Nice. I like it. I still have my 64s off my Blazer. Extremely soft setup. Let me know if you're interested.

Only run 3 of the bolts in the control arms and it'll flex much better. And you'll probably want to build some new arms to get the pivot points up closer to the frame. RajinCajun has those axles in his EB and they work pretty well.

Making some progress.. got the suspension all tacked in for the most part. I need to get a new drillbit to drill out the frame brackets for the radius arms but hopefully I'll have that done and all tacked in this week as well. The rear is F150 Alcan stock height springs that are flipped and netting me about 10 inches of stretch, I'm running them sprung-under to keep it low with 6 inch shackles. My total WMS is right around 104-105". Ended up having to get a new motor due to pretty much every bolt breaking off in the old motor. I've also got a NP435 and I still need to modify the D20 to be able to have full functionality with the twin stick i got from JB fab. Really wish I had friends to help me install the trans and transfer case, those suckers are HEAVY.

I'm still not done cutting the body, I'll go back and trim all the lines once I flex it out and finalize everything.
