I'm thinking either silver or mineral gray, both from the new Dodge trucks.

Thanks, I agree on both accounts, but I can deal with the short bed though.

Was able to get out to my buddy's shop on Thursday and look the truck over. It was definitely an old air force truck. Whoever did the drivetrain swap did a really good job! The only thing that doesn't work is the fuel guage, I will look into that when I pull the bed off and have access to the fuel sender. The A/C blows ice cold and the heat works really well, once the engine warms up. I was hoping to get it inspected so I could get the title transferred into my name before I start working on the truck. After looking everything over it needs a new exhaust, will be ordering a complete 4" turbo back on Monday, and a liscense plate light for the rear.

I drove it on the back roads for about 4 miles and the tranny definitely needs some attention. It really has good power for a complete stock 12V, really like driving the old truck. It has some kind of lift on the front as the front sits quite a bit higher than the rear. The motor smokes when you first crank it up, a lot when cold, and only smokes again when you mash the skinny pedal. I'm thinking it might be valve seals??? It's white/blue smoke, not black smoke. So after I get the new exhaust installed, inspected and the title in my name the tear down will begin. I will post up pics as I go along.

unless you plan on running a crap load of power fire ringing is pointless . fire ring takes the place of the cylnder headgasket . its used mostly in high hp trucks . i was blowing headgaskets on my black dodge after 4 races . after fireringing i never had to pull the head for gasket problems

I'm not going to be running tons of HP, but do plan on getting it around 400-500 at the rear wheels. Is there a certain company that does this or would a good engine machine shop know what to do?

Don't think I need that much on this truck, maybe on the M715.

Feeling better than ever, you do realize I have to re do everything on it first then sell it for less than half of what I got in it, right?

I just ordered all my front suspension hangers yesterday and I have a new set of GM SRW internal hubs with races and rotors on the way as well. Next week I will be ordering the 4" exhaust, 4" Deaver springs, ORD crossover steering, ORD HD tie rod, Borgeson steering shaft and PSC steering box. Once I get the Dana 60 out of the truck and broken down I will see what all it needs to get those parts on the way as well. Should be like a complete new truck on the front end undercarriage when I'm done. Then I will move to the rear undercarriage.

I do think I'm going to pull the head off, once the body has been pulled to get blasted and painted, to have it re surfaced, ported and polished then install a new head gasket along with ARP stud kit. I think all that will let me run in the 400 to 500 with no problems and allow twins.

You dead set on twins? I think one nice single would be enuff to get you to where you want to be. But "twins" has a nice ring.

I'm not dead set on twins, but really thinking about it. There are so many ways to go with either a single or twins I've got a lot of reading to do before I buy anything in that dept. Plus I'm not doing the power upgrades until after it's been driven for a while. Want to make sure I got a good motor before I start throwing power to it. I will do the gauges then the pump tweaks along with the small power adders before I spend any big money on it for injectors, turbos, etc.

I'm pretty sure I can pull the head myself and take it to a local machine shop or I might take it to Keith Craft racing engines in AR. for the head work. This part won't happen until late winter or early spring anyway. I've got a lot of work ahead of me before I start pulling the body off to get it blasted. I figured that would be the best time to pull the head, do any pump work and do the KDP, easy access to everything.

I wouldnt go too crazy with it. If you want it to be your DD and towrig. Keep it simple. Remember when building engines......fast, cheap, reliable. You can only pick TWO of those.

Merry Christmas from my loving wife!!!!!!!!!!

Front spring hangers for the crew cab came in today!!!

Also pictured is the frame brace for the passenger side and steering box brace for driver's side.

Deaver springs should be here in about 3 weeks, still need to order up some U-bolts and shocks.
