Looks like you will have a really strong and nice tow rig when you are done with this build.

Nice rig, glad to see you doing it. I love those years, but they're all getting so old now. Then newest is '85, right?

The no payment part is what made the decision to build this rig. I know I will have 20+ thousand into it easy, but I don't have a manadtory note staring me in the face every month.

Yep, '85 was the last year that Dodge built the crew cab.

4" Exhaust came in yesterday, plan on putting it on tomorrow before I go back to work. Also bought a new/used short bed to replace the current one that needs quite a bit of work. Will get pics of both tomorrow and hope to have the exhaust on as well with pics.

Also ordered my tires for the rig today, they are 38x15.50R20 Toyo M/Ts. Went with the extra width for the wheels I have planned to run on them. I think the the wider wheel/tire combo will look good on the truck since it's an old school truck.

Read up on the Diamon Eye kit and it has gotten a lot of good reviews. Certainly can't beat it for the price.

This were I bought my kit from, the one with the muffler.
http://www.tvdiesel.com/exhaustsyste...onents-18.aspx

Needed the muffler so I can get it inspected here locally.

Muffler is so I can pass, plan on having a section of 4" straight pipe I can swap out after I get the sticker. I've had one other 12V truck and it was straight piped and I didn't think it was loud, it was the factory 3". The 85 crew cab is also 3" factory straight piped and it's not loud either. Neve had one with full 4" exhaust, will crank it up without the muffler on it to see how loud it is.

I hear you, I said in the begininng it would have either 35s or 37s but the wheels I want made the switch to 38s. Oh well I can always down size.

Exhaust

Finally got around to getting the 4"exhaust on today. It went pretty well other than the fact that I didn't have any factory hangers to work with. Will make some after the body is off the truck, easier access. I'm sure if I had a truck that was originally a diesel it would have been a no brainer. The down pipe fit very well and the piping that goes around the t-case was dead on, very nice kit.

Pics.
Out with the old.

Factory DP vs. new 4" DP.

New DP installed.

How it turned out.

Will be redoing the exit off the muffler when we make the new hangers.

It sounds just like it did with the old exhaust which had no muffler. So I think this kit with a staright pipe would be pretty loud, but not over powering. If that makes sense. I plan on making a pc of pipe to replace the muffler after I get it inspected to see how it sounds.

Only cranked it up to hear what it sounds like and to check for leaks, so really can't say right now. Going to take it Tuesday to get it inspected, then I should be able to drive it around for a little bit. Not long though as I will be dismantling the front to re do the front suspension and rebuild the front axle.

Milestone

Today I was finally able to get it inspected and titled in my name, very happy with this. Drove it around town all morning getting it inspected and going to the tax office to get the tags on it. The truck drove great, well except for the transmission slipping, and it cranked up with just a bump of the key every time I got in it.

Got it back to my buddy's shop and commenced on tearing down the front end. Got the D60 out from the front end and into the shop, tore it down to see what I need to rebuild it with. Not so good news here, as it looks like everything but the housing, knuckles and brake caplier brackets need to be replaced. What do you expect from an 26 year old truck. I will get a pic uploaded later tomorrow.

Question for everyone. I'm undecided on wether to run 4.10 or 3.73 gears in the truck. What would you do if it was yours? It has and automatic with o/d and will be running 38x15.50r20 tires on about 6 inches of lift. Want good take off power, yet want to be able to get decent mileage (15-18 mpg) when cruising down the interstate @ 70-75 mph.
