1989 YJ Engine swap; 1992 350 TBI, AX15

The original engine gave up the goose, so we are collecting parts now.

So far we have a fairly fresh 350 TBI out of my buddies 1992 Silverado.

We have the stock AX15 and transfer case.

We just scored a Cast Iron bell-housing for $20 today; we hope it works. lol

We also picked up a flywheel, clutch kit and some bolts.

We also ordered the Novak adapter for the motor to tranny and the Novak motor mounts.

I am afraid of wiring.....lol

There's a lot of folks running them, but I'd be leary of that AX15 behind a V8. The synchros seem weak in them as well. May freshen it up a bit. Nice project though. Post pics when you start the nut cutting.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you.

I had read that the AX15 would be plenty strong behind a mild V8.

This won't be a wheeler, just something to get to hard to get places if need be.

My parents are in their 60s.....

Well, figured out the Bellhousing #3741311 which is for a 58/59 Passenger car with a 348/409 actually worked. The starter mounted different;y back then, but with a little grinding, it accepted the 1992 flywheel and 10.5" pressure plate and clutch.

We are going to blow it back apart, I am going to blast the bellhousing and then my dad is going to powerwash everything else.

We ordered the GMAX-15 adapter and motor mounts from Novak, so once we get those I will install them and mock everything up once again.

Well, we got all the drivetrain in and mocked. The frame is clean, and read for the Novak motor mounts.

I also mocked up the Y-pipe from the Chevy engine and it mounted up and will need minimal modification to fit in between the framerails, which is AWESOME!

Over the next month I wan to clean up the engine bay.

This is now is the PO converted the EFI to Carb and we are switching BACK to EFI for the GM TBI.

I want to clean up the wiring harness and remove anything that is not necessary.

IF the computer is still in there, then I am going to remove it and the Ignitioon module in the engine compartment.

I am searching the innerwebs for engine diagrams to make it easier.....

On a side note, it looks like I need to delete all(almost) of the vacuum lines and wiring. I am studying the Nutter bypass/delete.

On to the photos!

The donor exhaust bolts right up(obviously) and has clearance everywhere. Only a tad bit of massaging will be necessary....

And the Straight 6 with a bad block, but a decent little weber.
Anyone need this junk?

Thanks bud!

I plan on pulling it and the aftermarket ignition and any other oarts that I think are worth selling.

Are these heads worth saving?

It looks like someone has already dome the nutter bypass, but I am removing the entire ignition and most of the computer and wiring and vacuum tonight.....

Well shiite!

It has been a crazy few days working on wiring and I need some FN help!

The computer is out, and any wire that was connected to it, the diagnostic ports connected to the left side of the battery or the electronic ignition under the Master cylinder have been deleted.

I need to know what these wires do, so I can either label them or delete them all together.....

Looks like the distributor plug, but not.

This is the flat 6 pin connector that is basically unplugged, but I cannot find out what it is; there is also a single connector to the left in the photo...

Another one that looks like the Distributor.

Work, work, work, vacation.....lol

Well, everything is going back in for it's final resting place.

Also, decided to ditch the stock TBI setup and go with the newer FI Tech 400 hp kit for Father's Day.

Still working on this gem. Motor is in and we got the FITech setup for it, but the exhaust manifold on the driver's side is hitting, so looking for another one as we speak.

Also, I pulled that Weber carb today and the Lucas(?) distributor and junked the old engine.....
