85 Toyota stepping up to 1 tons

Decided to clean up my trans tunnel and cover while the interior was ripped out of the truck. It never was sealed up well the first time and didn't have any "soda" holders. The first version let a crap ton of heat and fumes into the cab. Hopefully this will eliminate a little of that. I built a frame out of 5/8 square tubing and cleaned up the cuts on the tunnel. The top cover comes off by removing 4 bolts that go into some nut zerts. Still doing some finishing touches on it. I need to weld it out, enlarge the hole for the crawl box and shoot a coat of paint on it.

I got the console welded up. I just need to do some finishing touches and a little grinding with a flap disk to knock off the rust and give it a shot of paint. I will have to figure out a boot for my crawl box and trans shifter. I think may have that figured out now.

I built a mount for the sub to sit in. Everything came loose when I rolled at Gilmer at Jambo. I'm going to go with a set of Crawl tunes speaker pods to eliminate my 6x9s and to make them easier to mount to the cage.

I got 3 of the 37s dismounted today and the other 2 hopefully by the end of the week. The set of 5 steel D-window wheels for sale then. 15x8 with 2.5in BS.

Got my console just about wrapped up. Just need to get my shift boots figured out. Also got some paint on my sub rack.

85 Toyota stepping up to 1 tons

I'm shooting to have it done by the beginning/mid-October. So hopefully a Fall run. Work has me busy about 60+ hours a week. My 14b should be going in in the next week or so hopefully. Ill be dropping off my D60 when I pick up my 14b so the gears/locker can get installed. Picking up a set of tires in that timeframe. Just running out of room in my garage and need to get axles, tires and wheels out of the way.

I spent some time working on my Skys offroad front spring hanger.

Dave @ Brave Motorsports took some measurements and cut out 3 gussets and a lower piece of 3/16" plate to fully box in the hanger. The gussets key into the lower plate. These hangers are prone to bending over the course of wheeling so this is a much needed modification.

Dave saved the CAD file and will be offering these through his website.

I have that same xmember on the front of my blazer and I bent it to **** the first time out. We eventually completely boxed it in. We would have been better off building it from scratch.

same here david. I wrinkled my first one all to shiit and then boxed in the second full width one. It definitely helped, just wasn't as cool as Chris's. Definitely much more ghetto.

Dave used the cad drawing from yours to make mine. Your shocks are in BTW 😎

No Ron. Not done yet. Started hacking up my bed yesterday to make some room for the new rubber.

So on with the worlds longest axle swap thread...

I ordered a crapload of parts this week.
US Gear 35spl shafts, Yukon 35spl lockouts, NitroLP thick 538's, Yukon D60 Master install kit, Spartan 35spl locker, NWF steering arms, TREs, tube adapters, Reid racing bushings, offset panhard bracket for my Hydro Assist, doorman wheel studs front and rear, Ruff Stuff 1.5 x.25 DOM for my steering linkage and some misc seals for the 60...

The 60 is basically going to be brand new (on the inside)

Started hacking on my tube bed last week and adding some tube. I needed to make some room for the rear wheel since my 37 would eat into the bed rails. I also didnt like how far the bed rails stuck out looking like a grain scoop. Used my JD2 Notchmaster to cut the tube joints. I made some new side rails and trimmed the bed pan to fit with a little overlap.

My 14 bolt had a cracked carrier so I found a new one with new bearings on eBay for $80

Should get some quality work done over the 3 day weekend.

A few progress pics.

I had to fab a spacer for the rear of my passenger seat to clear my amp that I mounted on my cage.

I welded up my offset panhard mount from Barnes for my hydro assist.

Bed is almost complete. I cut off the wings that extended over the wheels and addded the 90 degree pieces to tie into the new side rails. I need to cap a couple tubes off and and a few more pieces. I also extended my vent hose off of the fuel cell finally.

I've been slowly getting together the font end. The D60 is almost there. Just waiting on my disc brakes to show up.

I almost have the tube bed where I want it as well. I added some perpendicular bed rails and have enough room for a full size spare.

Got my 37s sold on Saturday

I picked up the Lakesea Big Rock 40s last night.

Are these brand new tires? Which style did you go with? I've never heard of these before. Just looked at the home page. Give me some specs and prices please

This is where he picked them up from Tim. They are supposed to be as soft as Reds, but only time will tell how they hold up. The price point is definitely right.

That's a nice looking tire. Like a morph between an irock and MTR.

Dont think so. The guy selling them bought a bunch of 40R17s and has been selling them on CL for a while now.

Yep he only has 17's, I still may pick up another for a spare if funds allow.

Travis (seller) showed me how they hold up to abuse on a lighter, low HP rig and the set he showed me looked pretty good with about 8 runs on them. The pictures showed that they flex awesome. He let one of his buddies borrow a set for the WEROK event at K2. They were under a linked rig with a Healthy 6.0. They showed some serious wear. Travis said the dude was taking some serious lines and giving it tons of hard throttle. The edges of the tires were wearing but other than that no real carnage.

I think with my healthy 22re they will be perfect for my setup and the price is definately right.

I measured an unmounted tire last night and got 38 1/2 inches tall so they are slightly undersized. The tire tread is pretty deep. I will measure them again after getting them mounted and see how tall they are then. Travis said he measured the durometer of the rubber and it was on par with a Red Label. He has about 36 tires left as of Sunday.

On another note, got my front Toyota width hanger burned off and ground down last night. That was a chore in itself. It was burned in pretty good.

Just need to start fitting the new front hanger, get the front driver spring perch oriented, and assembling the rest of the D60. (brakes, rotors, calipers, wheel studs and Yukon hubs) I drove in the wheel bearing races a while back so the hub assembly should go fairly easily, I hope.

Ordered a longer piece of 1.5OD .25 tube from RuffStuff for my drag link so I can get that welded up. Got some axle perch shims to get my pinion angle somewhat sorted out.
