Nice work Chris. Did you ever get the issue with the front leaf spring plate on the passenger side ironed out? Cant wait to see it wheel next month with the big boy setup.

Ya me too Alex. I going to tear into it this week and see what I can do to address the Spring plate. I have to fix that before its gets wheeled. Im pretty sure it wont last long once it starts getting beat on.

I am having issues getting the U-bolt plate to stay evenly compressed on top of the leaf spring pack. I will probably have to pull the two 5/8" bolts and shorten them up a little or go with a set of studs. The problem with studs is that my HA mount is in that area and the clearance of the bolt is much more favorable than using the stud and nut option (at least that is my initial presumption). As it sits now, I can tighten the outer u-bolt nuts more than I can tighten the inner bolts into the cast in spring pad.

I added a 3rd stud on mine and cut 3 grade 8 bolts down to length. Worked great and never came loose.

I've been working on a few things over the past week.

Addressed my pass side spring perch and got it all torqued down. I had to trim the inner 5/8 bolts to fit correctly to keep the spring plate on evenly. Seems like it is going to hold at least better than it was before.

I painted the front calipers, high steer arms, and steering linkage. I should have painted all this before in installed it the first time.

Just waiting on the paint to dry. Should be back in this week.

I installed a new fuel pump mount on the back of the cab just slightly lower than the fuel cell.

Finished up my anti wrap bar

Thanks Alex. I'm looking forward to see how it does as well.

I reassembled the front end, greased all of the TREs and got the tires back on last night.

Now on to the rear calipers and to finish up some miscellaneous wiring/odds and ends.

85 Toyota stepping up to 1 tons

Just saw this. Damn didn't know yall were going. I have been sick since Thursday. Just started feeling better today.

Truck is ready to wheel as of this afternoon. I made a few hot laps through the neighborhood.

Rock lights are done.

I need to get my spare DS shortened since the slip yoke on my current one is beat up pretty badly and I don't believe it will hold up for too much longer.

Truck did pretty well. I didn't push it too hard since it was a shake down run. It is definatley different negotiating lines due to the D60/14B now. They really like the rocks.

A couple of issues were found:

I needed to trim the front of my sliders about 2 inches since they were digging into my tires. I got them trimmed off and capped. I may need to take the outer rail of the sliders off as well and reconfigure the kickout. They were a little too wide at times and got hung up a few times on the tighter trails.

My fenders needed trimming since my tires were hitting both sides at full stuff. Got that done as well. I just need to get some push on molding to cover up the sharp edges.

I need a set of beadlocks with a BS of 4 or 4.5. My Yukon hubs took a beating on the granite and I couldn't air down enough without losing a bead.

This directly impacted how the tires worked. They did well for being brand new and started to break in a little. I feel they will get better the more I beat on them.

My front driveshaft pulled apart again on the same climb as last year. I need to swap it out with my spare that has a longer slip.

My approach angle sucks and I need to tuck my winch in further than what it is currently at.

I have some work ahead of me. Next trip is Jambo at Gilmer in May and then hopefully to Superlift the first weekend in June.

Stickies /thread

I flippin dig this thing, and it turned out clean. I personally didn't like the way your tires hooked, they seemed to limit your trucks ability. I definitely agree the approach angle could use some rearranging, and you need the correct drive shaft on your nemesis climb. I also think something is a touch off on your steering. I've never ran assist, but it doesn't seem like it's actually assisting you much.

Hope to get to wheel with you again soon bud. Always a blast

I ran assist with a spool up front and it didn't seem to help at all. With your low HP, you might want to consider a cheap lunchbox locker for the front. As far as a front driveline, I always ran square when I had a 22RE. It never once let me down.

I think the tires will eventually hook when I can air them down a little better and they get a little better broken in . I think that there is still have some air in the steering system. Im going to bleed it again this weekend. I really want to get rid of the HA and go full hydro in the future. Its only $$$ right.

I have a Spartan in the front axle now a selectable would be ideal. My spare DS was made to fit this span between the TC and Axle. The current DS was modified from when I didnt have Duals by cutting off about 2 inches of the female part of the slip shaft. It would have been perfect in its original configuration. It will work as a spare for now.

Driveshafts

So my front driveshaft that I had made local ended up being about 3 inches too long even when it was fully compressed and my spare rear stock shaft was no where close to fitting. I have been working on my first driveshaft building over the past couple of weeks.

I ended up cutting down the front shaft to the correct length on the axle side and welded it up. Not too concerned on vibes or balancing at this point. I painted it and swapped it in. I will use the one that kept pulling apart for my spare and eventually lengthen it about 2-3 inches so it won't be pulling apart again.

The rear shaft was 54" F to F and was about 4" too long. I cut off both ends and sourced a piece of 2.5" Sch40 pipe to make the body of the DS. I found an awesome metal yard (Rose Metals on Pinemont) that is really close to my house and got a 5' length of pipe for 16 bucks. This DS is basically a copy of my current one and should be fine for a spare. It's probably not the best and I didn't have the tools to check the runout but it is welded up nice and solid.

So, I have a spare front and rear driveshafts finally after almost 5 years.

Should be good to go for Jambo on May 12th at Gilmer.

Alex and I hit up Superlift ORV in Hot Springs this past weekend. This park is awesome! It was only my second time wheeling at Superlift. There was some rain and it was slick.
Only carnage was my Alpine HU getting water logged.

Horsepower Hill wrapped out at 5500 rpm in 2nd gear and 4.7s

Alex took a harder line and was a ton more impressive than my line

Daniel warming up his tires

Got 2 tires off of the ground on Schaffers

Hills galore

Our group for most of the weekend

Alex on Pinion Hill

Red doing work

RTI still had a little to go

headed home

Thanks again Alex for the tow up to Hot Springs and back.

Truck is looking great Chris. You taking the summer off, or have a few more trips planned? Any upcoming mods now that you've gotten some good seat time at multiple parks?
