K5 Blazer General Duty

Well I traded a 1976 F150 long bed to get this K5 a couple of years ago and am now getting around to working on it. My goals for this are to get the family to and from for camping, trail riding and just having fun. I need it to be safe and as reliable as a off road vehicle can be. I am brand new to a lot of this so bare with me on my questions sometimes. Also I never have really taken a vehicle off road,(besides the stupid stuff I did in high school) so I thought I would turn to this community for advice when it pops up.

Thanks for looking!!

More money spent

So recently I purchased a Dana 60 from a guy on CL for 400 bucks. It came with a whole bunch of stuff like hydroboost, brand new inner and outer wheel bearings front and back, new brakes and hardware front and back, calipers, new ubolts, new weld on spring perch, weld on shock mounts, 79' front front steering knuckle, ORD shackle flip and Tuff County EZ ride Leaf Springs ( the reason I bought the stuff). He gave me everything he had to install the dana 60 into my blazer and convert the front 10bolt 6lug to 8lug. I wanted to ask you guys if this is a good swap to do or should I sell what I have minus the ORD flip kit and Leaf springs and just go get a 14bolt and Dana 60 front axle.

Thanks
(please excuse the mess)

It really depends on what you want the rig for. If you're going to use it as a mudder, you're probably OK with those axles. If you're planning to crawl, put big tires and lockers on it, get the strongest axles you can (60/14Bff).

Sounds like you got a good deal on the parts though.

Those are ford knuckles and spindles fyi.
For continuity reasons I'd just use all chevrolet.

Dott, I was planning on running 38in tires and just go camping and maybe some trails when the occasion rises. I have a 4 and 5 yr old so limited on the rock crawling. Dammit! I guess I just need to break down and find a pair of axles like you said. So with what I have would anyone even buy it?

Obijuan, yes they are ford parts and the giy I got them from was sure that they would wotk on a 10bolt. He also had a blazer and just never got around to installing the parts.

They will work. Just have to know what to use.

NV4500 Puchased

Another stop on my great parts gathering quest. Picked this up for 450.00. Everything seems to shift smooth but I haven't opened it up yet. Do you guys think I over paid? He also gave me the slave, master cylinder, lines and peddle assy. It had a Borg Warner 4401 attached but opted out. The peddle assy is from a 93 one ton 3500 so I will have to see if I can even use them or some how fab them up.
