Well its been slow going waiting on some parts and funds to arrive. Hope to have the rear seat belts from a 2002 Chevy in soon and i can work on getting this thing to pass inspection. But i did get one of the most important installs done. The wife bought me a new car seat for my son so that I would stop stealing the one out of her truck

Well my brakes have been weak for a while. Finally got time to tear them down and this is what i found.

Looks like when the wife drove it with the parking brake on it cooked the grease and wheel bearing seal and let the grease get on everything inside. So I had NO friction on the rear brakes. Cleaned up everything and replaced the shoes and brake cylinders. Now it looks like this.
Tomorrow need to take the drums to be turned and I will be ready to bleed them and bed'em

When i get back from the sand box I am going to work on a trim pannel to hide the retractors behind. I'm happy with the way they came out and thanks to Rvreddog for the belts. Now for some new(ish) tires and fix the exhaust and try to get it inspected. We will see how that goes with the baby on the way>

Frame Section and a whole mess of rivets!

Well... thanks to some trading with Ray (j20m715) I am now the proud owner of the front frame sections from a 1986 K30 and the frame sections at the rear spring hangers! The only down side is now, when i get back home at the end of January i have about 50+ rivets to remove so looks like the people next door are not going to be liking me for a few days! In the pics you can see i slung my Superduty leaf springs under it to get a idea of how much i will have to move the front bracket and get a idea of where the shackle will be. I think i'm going to build a cart or stand for the frame section to sit on so i can mock everything up on it, then once i like it start moving stuff over to the truck.

Why dont you have those brackets on your truck yet ?

Hit me up when you need a dana 60 or even just a roller axle.

Thanks for the offer Ray, I may have to take you up on it. As soon as i get back i'm going to start taking brackets off and checking the front shackle angles and such. Once i get it all lined out i will start transferring brackets to the truck the "goal" is to not have the truck down very long. But that remains to be see

Well after what seems like a endless number of rivets (still not done) I was able to mock up the springs I would like to use. With the shackle hanger moved forward it looks like the axle will be close to stock, which works out for me because this is not a hard core Offroad truck so I don't feel I need the increased approach angle. Need to get some material so I can check the shackle angle and length, then maybe start transferring some brackets. After removing MORE rivets head:

Also forgot my new to me wheels from a 2012 Dodge 2500, a buddy of mine made me a great deal on them. I just home they don't suck the tires in to far, they have 6" of back spacing so we will see.

And my new Dana70"s" rear axle from a 2004 Chevy 2500 cargo van.

They will suck em in a bit but some spacers ought to help. And the sweet 70 will help too.

Yeah I was thinking about spacers if I had too, I'm hoping the wider track width on the newer axle helps. I also thought that I might be able to run a drw front axle if I needed to. I'm not sure of the exact number but stock h1's have to be lose to the 6" backspacing that my wheels have. I also used some angle iron as a mock up shackle. From the pic it looks like when I mount the shackle hanger to the truck I'm going to have to move it rear of stock to get the shackle angle to work

Shackle angles...

So i mocked up the springs and did some playing with shackle angles and i will let the pics do the talking. All of the pics are with the spring just hanging with no weight on them. I used a ratchet strap to simulate ride height but forgot to take pics.
Stock shackle location

Moved back 1.5"

Moved back 3"

Looks like i will be moving the shackle somewhere between 1.5" and 3" back. It might end up under the body mount, i will have to wait and see what it looks like when i have it on the truck. Seeing as im not overly worried about travel i will end up running a little shorter shackle then what i have mocked up (6" eye to eye). I hope that helps with the pinion angle and caster. I'm aiming for around 5-10 degree shackle angle at ride height (open to opinions and input).

Little update:

Not much has happen with the truck other then i got my fuel issue fixed. Stupid piece of fuel line connecting the pump to the hardline cracked. Very common but a pain in the butt. When i get back into town around the middle of June i should be picking up my crew cab 4x4 frame! Complete with D60 and 14bolt and also so ORD crossover steering items. Big thanks to j20m715 for the help. When i get the frame home im going to start moving the rear spring hangers for my 64" springs and get the front hangers swapped around. Im very ready to make some real progress on this thing Finally!

Took delivery of it on Thursday and after having to rearrange the garage to make room for it I rolled it in, only to find out my garage was 1" to short. The rear frame rails were a little boogers up so I chopped off 2". Now it clears no problem!
Before

After

ORD crossover stuff I got from Ray along with the frame

Parts from Ruff Stuff & ORD

Also swapped out the rear 56" springs for some 64" ones from a 2500. They are just mocked up for now, I still need to drill the rest of the holes through and get the overload spring off the 56's.

I leave to go back to work on Monday but hopefully while I'm gone I will order up some other things and be close to ready to swap the cab when I get back in September. That's kind of a big goal but hey, we will see!

It sure looks better at your place instead of mine.

I'm gonna try & beat you at getting cab installed
I plan on doing all drivetrain before putting the cab on,
thinking it will go back together a lot quicker & easier.

Let me know when you get back.

Hahaha, bet your glad to have the room back. I think you will beat me to mounting the cab though, I still need to work out the front springs, install engine crossmember and crossover and mount the suburban tank. A lot will depend on the parts situation and I agree with you about the drive train first, but unless I can find someone to mill out a 205 and I find a nv4500 I will be putting the 2wd trans in for a short time.

Also finished arranging the garage finally!
