Toyota 4.3 Vortec swap

The little diesel is very tired. I'm sure it could be freshened up and made to put out for a little longer, but I'm tired of not having a few horses at the ready when I want them.

Enter the 4.3/TH350 combo. Case could be made that I'm still not adding many horses, but with the gearing I've got, it'll be a barn burner compared to what I've been working with.

The plan is for a rear-mounted radiator, and pull the winch back tighter to the engine for approach angle gains. Depending on the oil pan issues, I may have to move my steering ram to the front of the axle, but that's a small thing in the scheme of it.

Cutting the crossbar out over the motor. I hope to be able to get the 4.3 in the same hole and not have to do any more cutting. We'll soon see.

Also on tap for this round of upgrades is milling out the spindles on the rear 60 for 35 spline shafts. I already have the shafts and carrier with correct side gears, I just have to pull it and strip it down for the machine shop to open it up.

I have a 2004 model 4.3 Chevy and have more hp than needed in my Rocky. Are you going fuel injection? Also Advance Adapter auto trans(4l60e) to RF1A tcase was awesome.

Its a late model 4.3 (not TB) so I'm thinking it'll have plenty of stank. My adapter is on order, so I'm hoping to be able to start mock-up as early as next weekend. We'll see.

The way this thing is built, the skidplates are brake-bent and fit exactly to the frame rails, and the suspension links attach to the plates. Therefore, I cannot drop the skidplates, and then move the truck. I'm going to separate the eng/trans and pull the engine first, then drop the trans out the bottom.

Went out the other evening and got the steering system drained and the rest of the plumbing disconnected. The wiring to the alternator is all that's left attached yet. Loosened all the bellhousing bolts and motormounts are ready to separate. Need to tie up the trans to the cage since I wont be pulling it together. Should be motorless tonight, may possibly pull the trans as well if I have help/time.

My adapter arrived today, so I can start bolting things together this weekend for mock-up. Christmas for me!

Got the engine and tranny pulled. Came out without an issue. I got doused with 90wt when I separated the tranny/t-case, but no biggie. Now I am going to cut off motor mounts and other bs brackets and clean it up good.

Not a whole lot more done, but a few things in the works. I cut the motor mounts and other brackets off, pressure washed the firewall and frame rails, and pulled the rear axle. Now I can strip down the axle to the bare housing and get it bored out for the 35 spline shafts. Also have a bit of grinding to do to prep the frame rails for new mounts.
