Dana 60 Pinion Gaurd Solution Anyone??

Just curious if anyone has done it. Was looking at it and thinking of building off the tubes and top truss and tieing in to the ribs on the pinion area of the housing.

Trip before last I had a rock poke my ujoint through the cap and I would like to come up with something to stop that.

Yeah, you lost me for a bit.

I found a couple that people just welded on and a couple that bolted on. Not sure what I will do yet. Hoping to come across a slick solution.

I think that is a pretty cool solution but looks like a bunch of time. It probably wont happen before my next trip but I do want to build something. I have been stranded for a situation where a guard would have protected it, so to me it is worth it eventually.

F'd up the joint and pinion. I literally planned on fabbing a guard before the trip, but put it off......

Sounds good! I am already committed to a Tolar run as soon as I am mobile again; I am doing a site map out there that I have to get finished for them. I have to run a bunch of trail roads out there which will be good for gear break in. But, soon after Bridgeport it is.

I think I just finished reading about your bad luck when I posted this. I am to lazy to check post time, but it is close. I had actually just put a pinion guard on my 9 inch before it went to differential heaven.

Post up when they get something out there worth the hour drive. I'd be interested in another trip if they get something more than trail riding trails.

I will if it changes. The issue out there is there is just not any real extreme terrain to cut. However, I like playing in all the trenches and piles from the rock quarry work over the years. Most dont realize it, but pretty much anything out of the active quarry is free game including all the rock piles and trenches you care to drop in. There has been talk of a rock garden and some heavy equipment work back in the trail areas to create some bigger trails, but to date it has not happened.

I am thinking about using a u bolt, but not welded. I am thinking I am going to weld two tabs to both of the axle tubes and use a large ubolt over the pinion area with the nuts recessed into the skid. The pinion skid will extend over 8-10" of the differential and have braces up to the axle tubes. I will have to go buy some 3/8 or 1/2" strap and just play with it. It might be possible to just weld it all up permanent.
