I did get the freebie. Sent it in, had email results in 2 days. The silica was a little high and some other stuff related to break-in. Not a problem, recommended continued use with filter change.

About what? Engine oil that is cleaner than the factory supplied filter can do?

I'm using an API approved oil of the weight recommended in the owners manual.

http://www.amsoil.com/magnuson_moss.aspx

"Congress in 1975 enacted the federal Magnuson-Moss Act to regulate written consumer product warranties. An examination of the law reveals warranties remain intact when AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants are used."

"Furthermore, the practice of extending oil drain intervals does not void warranties. Original equipment manufacturers pay or deny warranty claims based on the findings of failure analysis. To affect the vehicle warranty, the lubricant must be directly responsible for the failure. If the oil didn't cause the problem the warranty cannot be voided, regardless of brand or length of time in use."

"AMSOIL offers a warranty that covers the cost of repair or replacement of a proven mechanically sound engine damaged as a result of using AMSOIL synthetic motor oil. However, it has never happened. Thirty years of experience proves AMSOIL can be installed in any vehicle with complete confidence."

you are right dott, about the act.

just this week ford declined a customers eng which has 47k miles on it.
its was still under powertrain warrenty.

customer had sludge build up from using a fancy oil. (im not gonna same the name dott, but call me)
just a little note: the customer had all the reciets from the oil changes & ford did say, no.

the oil was really badly caked on the heads!

no, the customer did not have a bypass filter but, changed it when the oil company said, in the brouchers.

that made me, change my complete oil change including my bypass filter this weekend.

Admittedly, it's hard to accept the longer oil change intervals after being indoctrinated all my life about doing it every 3000. If you read and understand the science behind it, it all makes sense.

The synthetics were developed for the aircraft industry because dino couldn't handle the temperature extremes.

i agree w/ you.
but, the reciets were in black & white.

im on the fence now w/ synthetics.

the only thing i could of the think is that the oil change place is not using the oil they are payed for.

That is the kicker there. Our tire store does alot of our oil changes when I am not home, and we take the Amsoil into them to get it done.

Did the ford have factory exhaust or any tuners by chance?

I use the Oil Analyzers kit
http://www.oaitesting.com/
about $22 prepaid testing and freight

I get my sample kits from Amsoil, here are the kits they offer
https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/oai.aspx

Blackstone Labs
http://www.blackstone-labs.com/
Oil collecting kits are free, $22.50 per regular analysis
A lot of folks on the Diesel forums use this one.

SwRI has a web site that doesn't show the cost
http://www.swri.org/4org/d08/petprod/usedoil/
Also doesn't say anything about synthetics

Here's some good reading about oil analysis.

Is it bedtime yet?

I recently received the analysis for a 22000 mile sample. It says the oil is "suitable for continued use", all I need to do is change the filter, top off the oil and keep going.

An important note:
In the beginning, I used a lower grade of oil thinking the special filtration system would make it last a long time. I was incorrect and would not have known this without the oil analysis. Since then I have changed to a better quality oil and have had the expected results. You have to use quality oil to get extended life from it.

Here is my analysis.

Note at the bottom of the analysis there are 4 lines labeled Sample 3, 4, 5 and 6. The third column shows "unit time" and "lube time". The unit time is the actual miles on the vehicle and the lube time is the mileage on the oil.

This is an awesome write-up. I just read this post and found it very useful especially having been tested in the real world.

In theory oil shouldnt break down, unless abused, right? The only thing that breaks oil down is contaminents from the combustion process, right? I would believe that if you kept a good filtration system on your vehicle, you could damn near never change your oil.

One more question, I didn't see an overall cost onthis set-up, how much do you have invested in this kit ifyou dont mind me asking?

Combustion by-products are "neutralized" by additives and the additive is eventually used up. To keep running the same sump, you have to replace a filter every so often then replace the oil (about 1 quart). That replenishes the additive package. Excessive loads can also deteriorate the fluid, I mean, loads that exceed what the oil was designed for, that's why owners manuals specify different drain intervals depending on "normal" or "severe" service.

See the chart at this link, you click on the oil you want to see results for. Look at the "Viscosity Shear Stability ASTM D-6278" test.

The kit without filters retails for $270. I can get the kits and filters for wholesale, about 25% off.

It sure is nice to change oil once a year, or less.
