NP205 twin stick

i bought a NP205 to replace my troublesome NP203. it came with the th350 adapter plate, and the correct 27 spline output shaft. unfortunately it did not come with a shifter. so after searching forums and shops i decided that instead of buying an OEM shifter that would cost me around $100, i bought a twin stick shifter.

i originally wanted to buy the ORD version, but was needing to be thrifty, so i went with the JB custom Fab kit. http://jbfab.net/Merchant2/merchant...._Code=Shifters

it looks like i will need to do some easy tcase mods to make it work, but other than that it should be a cake walk. the kit should be here in a week.

in case you dont want to read the thread, heres the complete write-up...http://138modified.blogspot.com/2010...m-to-disk.html

This is all you have to do to get your twin stick to work.

I was looking for the tech article that I use to cut the rail. The article has dimensions to go by. It's in the AustinK5 tech articles, which must be down right now.

today we had bad weather so i went to capitalj's and worked the case over. everything for the most part went great. i followed the guide to the letter and got it right the first try. the detent ball was kinda tough to get out, we ended up laying the case on its front and letting gravity as well as the magnet get it out. i tried to not drain the oil all the way, and snookered myself. you have to drain it all to be able to see the cap and pin to retrieve them. its best to shine the flash light threw the PTO hole but fish the cap and pin from the drain plug. measure the middle groove 3/4" end to end, and the end one 5/8. sloping groove in middle, abrupt on the end. i even gave it a quick cleaning and a first coat of paint. i made sure and checked and it would not engage unless they were both in the same range. over all time spent was about 4 hrs. that included clean up and seeing my friends son for awhile.
now its all ready, all i need is for my shifters to come in.

heres some links i used to help me.

http://www.offroaddesign.com/NP205tech.htm
this one shows the differant splines and other useful info

http://coloradok5.com/jkwtwinstickreview.shtml
pretty much this tells you everything you need to know.

http://www.drivetrain.com/205transfercasesillust.htm
i used this one to back up the info from the first link.

http://www.clubfte.com/users/ivanribic/page2.html
this was the first one i read, it has alot of the goods. that case is bit differant, but other than that is great.

http://austink5.net/albums/album54/range_rail_mod.jpg
and the golden nugget was the pic Dott threw my way. mad props for that pic dude. thanks alot!

we put the NP205 in the truck today. it took all day, but stuff had to be modified to get it done. the front drive shaft needs to be shortened and we will be done. we added to the rear to make it work for now. over all the front drive shaft needs to be 2.5" shorter and the rear drive shaft needs to be 6 " longer. the 205 seems small under there. other than being stronger its nice that its center of gravity is better than the 203. ill have some pics as soon as capitalj emails them

When installed did the new twin shifters fit through the stock shifter hole on the tranny hump or did you have to modify?
