getting some opinions, i have been running this 383 in my truck for 2.5 years, during this time its cooked 2 cams, most likely valve springs but..... now its an excuse to run my 454 i've been building for another project. complete ready to drop in i just need headers. should i yank the heads on the stroker and go through all the b.s machine work again or slap a BBC between the frame and ride with it.
possitives and negatives are great guys.
thanks in advance!!!

There is really no one who can awnser this but you. Do you want to spend the time and money to fix it now or do you want to put the 454 in and keep wheeling? Either is a good motor so it's a win win I would think.
When you take the 383 to the machine shop have them show you what is wrong in the valve train so you don't keep eating up cams.
lol, im thinking the same thing, i always loved the sound of a BBC as well though, the stroker is broken down into parts right now. i think i have it sold its pending now but if it dont go through i'd be more than happy to let you go through it. it had 2000 model vortec heads, 3 angle valve job, beehives, guide plates, comp full roller rockers, i spent too much money on that thing.too much to list but of course the cam is cooked and lifter is common since. what are my weight gains gonna be with a bbc? i am not worried about it but i'd just like to know.:toast:
Ive been going on and on with a buddy of mine in Quitman (Josh you know him) about SBC vs BBC. The SBC you got to stroke it to get power. And then you got to get the air/fuel in and out of it.....ie. aluminum heads/big carb/blah, blah, blah. Take you a BBC and get the compression ratio up there around 10 to 1 or so give or take, slap a set of 036 or 781 casting BBC heads and KATEY BAR THE FAWKIN DOOR! Anybody can make one put down 450-500 HP with the right cam and stuff and this is with factory crap! Its a no brainer. BBC all the way.
