Beware rant inside. Gas prices and debit cards.

I have a 2003 silverado p/u with a 26 gallon tank. Gas islands pre approve cards for $75.00. I takes me more than $75.00 to fill up. I either have to redo everything or leave without filling the tank completly full. I know those of you driving diesels and have bigger tanks have to have the same problem.

Just having a bad morning and had to vent a little bit.

Have a good day.

It cost me $113 to fill up last time. I think my dodge is gonna sit, and the work truck is going to get some extra use.
One of my buddies that has been driving from Fritch to sunray 5 days a week sometimes 6, said his last months diesel bill was $1,250.

This is my debit card and it is authorized on higher limits. The gas pumps only preauthorize $75.00. I am not sure if all pumps in all states are like this but I know the ones I have used in Texas, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona are like that.

It ain't the card, it's the station/pump.

When you swipe your debit (or credit) card prior to pumping, the computer verifies your card is valid by attempting a $1 charge. If you have $2 in your checking account (debit card), you can pump 'til you're full or you hit the pump's limit (if there is one). You have one or two days to get funds in your account before the full charge officially shows up at your bank.

I used to think all I could get was that one shot on pumps with a limit. Then one day I tried a second bite of the apple...Approved, pump activated, I finished filling up. Recently I tried a 3rd swipe at the same station (to fill the Jeep after topping off the Dodge). Third swipe didn't take. I bet THAT was a bank/card issue.

Disclaimer: my debit card allows me to call it a "credit" card, bypassing the need for a PIN and earning me some cash back. I NEVER use it as a debit for pumping fuel, so I could be totally off the mark here when it comes to DEBIT.

But I don't think so.

Count yourself lucky. Most of the pumps here only goto $50.

What sends me into orbit is the "pay before you pump". I mean come on idiot behind the counter I'm going to fill it up I don't know how much it's going to take. And I am damn sure not going to leave my card with you while I do fill it up.

If you are so scared that someone is going to drive off then you shouldn't be running a fuel station.

Also if you go inside and pay then the limits are not there. Why, I have no freakin idea. another thing I have found, if you use debit @ the pump it will put a hold on your card in the one case I had with mine it did a $75 hold plus the $75 used for fuel, man was I pissed, does not do that when I choose credit. so I always use credit @ the pumps.

I try to do that also. I don't like putting my PIN in a machine that is out in the open and hundreds of people a day use.

The pumps here in town at one chain still shutoff at 50.00. Most everywhere else i think it's 75.00. Most diesel pumps that I've used are set at 100.00. It sucks when youre almost done and have to reset it for a couple gallons.

They should regulate the Gas and Diesel prices instead of giving everyone $600 to stimulate the economy.

I got my letter today...most of our original refund went towards gas, so it won't surprise me if a good chunk of the stimulus package goes the same direction.

I always fill up at the same station, and 90% of the time it's on the same pump. I've been a regular customer there for at least 15 years and have very few problems filling up. Most times I only have to introduce myself to the new hires once--and they figure the rest out pretty quick.

I spend anywhere from $150 to $300 per week on gas in all 4 trucks. I buy all our smokes at the same place to the tune of $240 a month, and most times I pick up at least one coke a day there as well. It's a family owned station, and our families go back close to 50 years over three generations. Occasionally the owner throws in a free oil change, buys my coffee in the mornings, and always helps my kids in their fundraisers. I couldn't be happier about buying gas from them--at least they appreciate their customers.

Gas is something that I'm not going to do without any time soon, and yeah the cost sucks. But I refuse to put it on a credit card of any kind. Just don't see any sense in buying something on credit that'll be gone before you get the first bill. Much less paying 15 or 20% interest on.

Now to figure out how I can tow the blazer with the bike.

bigbroncojeff just gettin started
i've been cut off at $50, 60, 75, 99, 100... it's the station not the card... and it doesn't seem to matter whether it's debit, credit, or a company credit card

ticks me off because it usually cuts off about 30 seconds after i finally get it in there good enough to pump for more than 10 seconds at a time
