i wanna race too. so were gonna need some help. if everybody starts talking about it now, i think we can put together a good event. everybody whose in let me know, and we'll make it happen.
just a thought for ideas about the course. i was thinking longer than last year. at least 1 river crossing, 1 balls out section in the sand, steap climb, steap decent, and at least a couple laps.
thoughts?

whatever. get over the spelling errors. i dont think your rig is a whole lot closer to being complete. and last time i checked......YOU told me that was a good motor. so..... it better run.
anyway.
not sure how to work the classes. tim suggested a 2 tire size class system. 35 and up, 35 and down. not sure how i feel about that. i think a stock/modified system would bring more racers because there are some pretty extreme rigs out there on 35s. but then you run into the never ending problem....where do you draw the line on stock / modified. im hoping for some feedback on here, and we can go from there.

DO it!
The classes weren't bad last year. You will never please everyone so just make some INTELLIGENT decisions about the classes and let the cry baby's cry. LETS HAVE FUN!!!!!!

ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT THE CLASSES SPEAK NOW!!

Maybe use the same rules as the mud bogs
OR
First tire size has to be considered:
Second is it a stock style suspension:
Third Is the motor stock or at least one or two of the following (Carb) (intake manifold) (ignition) exhaust).
Forth is the Body stock or is it a buggy (Fender cutting for clearance allowed)

OK so we have the stock class with stock engines that (meet to be determined rules) with stock suspension lifts allowed.
So then we split the stock stuff up by tire size
1. up to 33s
2. 34-37
3. 38 and up

Next we would have a modified class
Engine mods three or more of the above rules.
Suspension changes 4 links air bags coils where leafs used to be you know stuff that ant stock!
This class would still have to have a some what stock body.

Then there would be an open class (Buggy) or Some thing that might have like a grill of a jeep but you can kind tell it started out with a set of tires with an engine setting between them and some pipe!

This is just some things that are obvious that separate one rig from the other. I'm not saying these are all the things to conceder or that you have to conceder all of them you asked I answered.

These are the things I hear people talking about (Griping) that should separate one rig from the other.

Thanks Mike, that is good stuff. I like that type of system too. and those rules are similar to what weve all seen at the river in the past. Tim was just throwing the tire only class thing out there as a suggestion. i would like to get more inputs from people interested in racing. HINT HINT PEOPLE---SPEAK UP NOW!!!

lets all get as close as we can to agreeing on some classes, using Mikes rules as a baseline.
I have a couple inputs to get us started:

1: is the tire sizez for stock. how about only 2. up to 35, and 36-up

2: the motor mods puting you into modified. i dont think motors make that much of a differance anymore. so how about this. if its been swapped, and theres a huge differance you are modified (aka small block chevy in a toyota- your modified---newer but still the same number of cylinders toyota motor with some bolt ons in your toyota-you can run stock) OR if you are running an aftermarket blower or nitrous--you are modified.

i think motors are important, but i just dont think a stroker kit and some heads (or whatever) should count against you if its basically the same motor.

i think the suspension is alot more important.

i may regret saying that during the balls out across the sand section.

what do you think about that? lets talk this out people and have a good competative race.

oh yeah, if your tow rig is more of a modified/buggy contraption than your race rig, then you have to race in modified/buggy class AKA FODGE

HAHA

The engine thing sounds good like I said make some rules and live with them. Pass out some or make it mandatory to fill out a rule suggestion-question air with every entry. Bumping class is OK.It always has worked out good. Who's going to run this thing?? If you make it longer we will need more help! Try to use the kiss principal it works a lot better that way.

I should be able to help get it together and the day of. As far as classes go I for some reason always liked the 37 cutoff. By the time someone has the lockers front and back to really compete they usually are running at least a 35. I think i would limit it to 5 classes
37 and smaller Stock
37 and smaller Mod
38-44 Stock
38-44 Mod
Open

have some general giudelines to what makes one stock or mod, then throw it out the window and let your tech make the call to keep a competative field. If a Driver has a problem it can go before the group.

Thanks for the input on the classes, thats good stuff. im fine with the 37 cut off. i was actually thinking only 4 classes. i wasnt going to split modified up by tire size. we'll kick that around.

Rockchip- thanks in advance for any help you can give, sorry to hear you cant make it this year.

I wouldn't group to many vehicles together. There has to be some separation we don't want to make it so everyone is upset with the classes (except the one that have a distinct advantage) ! We have to remember this is after all a competition and need to make as fair as possible. I didn't enter by blazer because it was shoved into (Modified) just because it had a 14 bolt rear. I thought that was a little picky it was still stock engine, Carb, intake, trany, suspension, wheel base, steering, full body. It only had a 4" lift with 35s and it was modified?? We need to make like I said intelligent decisions about these classes.
It was said you could put in a stroker motor (to get more power) but you can't put in a heavier rear end that would in the long run take away power???? IF you get that picky about a rear end swap haw can you have only 4 classes??? We need fair decision making for all. Don't just say thats the way it is because you think your to busy to deal with it. Now don't be a hater. I am looking forward to this deal and I don't really care what the rules are. I get there on Thursday and go home on Monday. If I compete cool its just a small part of the weekend (A REALLY GREAT PART) but a Small part all the same.

Im with you. I wouldnt have put your blazer in mod. but if you think 5 classes is better, we can go that route.

in the big picture, im not that worried about the class rules for me. i just want everybody else to be happy with them and have a equal chance to win. i was thinking 4 to keep it simple, but 5 shouldnt be that big of deal. ill try to put up a complete rule post in the next couple days based on these inputs ans rules weve seen in the past on general stuff, and get ALL rules in 1 post.
ill probably start a new thread.

thanks for all the help mike, youve been to alot more Comps than me, so that is good stuff.
i think tom is going to be able to hook me up with a box of caution tape for course marking. i need to find some stakes. and we need to plan a day this fall to go out and look at the area to get a rough idea of the course.
the terain will no doubt change before the event, but just to throw some ideas around.
i have a pretty good mental picture of what i want, just need to go look at it.

and where is nick? he needs to be in on this. and tim? i dont know if tim folows this forum. ill call him later.
