DO NOT lower the t-case......get some CV drive shafts and adjust the
pinion angle via re-welding the perches or if you must, using pinion
shims.....move the rear axle back if you can!!!!

if you drop the case, you will cause more problems for the front end
due to poor geometry vs. any issue you help on the rear....

and remember, it's not just the case that has to move, the whole
motor/tranny/t-case goes at an angle to get the case down and then
you have all the little stuff to look out for like doing a body lift(which suck, too)

engine to firewall clearances, shifters/linkages, exhaust, fan shroud to fan clearance, tranny case/bellhousing to floorboard clearance, etc....
anything that's connected to the drivetrain can be another potential
headache to move...

besides, you are ultimately looking for ground clearance, right? Why push the
drivetrain any closer to the ground?

My two pennies....

Dont listen to these dipshits. If you need to lower your case to make the Drivetrain work, do it. You will be money ahead to buy a slip yoke eliminator so that you can get a longer rear shaft, and then possibly not have to drop the case. A CV will help, but not until you get the slip yoke eliminator. I'm in Fritch all the time if you need some pointers. EZ pays people to build his ****, and i dunno about the dallas guy, but i have built plenty of short spring over jeeps, and to do it without a whole lot of coin you have to drop the case until you get that rear slip fixed. thanx for the input fellas.Got the rear leafs over yesterday started on the front axle today.Working on gettin the saddle mounts off today when the monster garage turned into the movie Friday. So ill tackle again tomorrow.I DVR all the extreme 4x4 and I have one where they install a transfercase lowering kit and they made it sound like its the way to go.Going for a economical recession lift if ya know what I mean.

My junk is full of economic recession. Do what you can, when you can. Some of these guys forget that a fella doesnt have to have a "textbook" rig to have fun. Just be aware, there is a difference in 1/2 price & 1/2 @ss. Dont let your rig become 1/2 @$$ because you are only trying to spend 1/2 price.

Um, who the F are you and where the F can I find you?

I have NEVER paid anyone to build a rig for me....all of my builds, from the Terra to the 2.5 ton axle'd K5 to my Rubi have been done BY ME with help
from my buddies, in the dirt behind one house and in the rather small one car
garage I now have or at a couple of buddies shops.....I can afford to spend
decently on my rigs because I work hard and budget properly for the goodies I want....

I am a professional commission mechanic and /fabricator..

I can rebuild and repair ANY component under my rig with few exceptions

the only major items I have ever farmed out on any of my builds
have been the driveshafts.......mainly because I do not have access
to the right equipment to build them myself-Do you think you can build
a better driveshaft than the folks at Tom Woods? Or even Mike over at Allied Machine here in Amarillo?

Laramie, if you think you know me, you are wrong..

The gentleman asked for input, and I gave mine...I did not insult anyone,
resort to name calling or infer that that his idea was without merit..what have you done, thus far?

Sorry, El Quatro, just wanted to set the record straight....and my advice was
based on my 15 +years of Automotive and 4x4 experience, not some BS
I picked up off the web...

My number and location is posted up, I'll prolly be at the river today for a lil while. If your such a master why didnt you tell him that he would need a SYE to be able to properly fit a CV rear shaft in with SOA. Or make sure he wasnt unlucky enough to get the NP207 in his early YJ before he whent huntin for rear shaft mods.

On another note El Quatro, it will help, as mentioned in previous posts, to stretch that rear out to get better angles. Cherokee rear leaf springs are an easy way to stick that rear axle out a few more inches, but thats only if your wanting to cut up the tub. You WILL have to build a traction bar for that rear axle once you go SOA, those YJ springs get really soft once you put the axle under them. If you have the money, you may consider gettin lift springs for the rear and keeping it spring under to control axle wrap. On the front make sure and triple check to make sure you steering linkage is goin to work out, and dont forget about longer/relocated brake lines, and shocks. If your going to wider axles at the same time it will make your jeep feel alot more stable, plus get you some insane flex for a leaf spring rig.

Everyone has a different way to solve the problem, and 9 times out of 10 they all work. Thats the hard part about answering this question. No reason for people to be arguing, name calling etc., try and focus on the question at hand guys.. I would rotate pinion to position needed, SYE, lower case maybe 1" MAX, and run a CV shaft in the rear. I have been down the sprung over yj route before and had hell with the rear shaft, ended up having to move rear axle back 4" via toyota rear springs to solve the issue the easiest/cheapest way. May not be what others are doing but always remember, you are building your rig not theirs.

Wow sorry if I offended your economic reasoning. Just have never been a fan of dropping the transfer case and adding the angle to the front. Instead of hijacking this thread into a name calling contest and making a bunch of empty threats, I will just mentally give you a hug and a pat on the back.

An SYE is definitely worth having, BUT plenty of aftermarket driveshaft
makers offer slipe yoke styled CV shafts at a reasonable cost...

I recently installed a Tera Extreme SYE(Super super short) and Tom Woods combo on Drewskie's Yj...the whole she bang was a little over $500 bucks
not counting the fluids and misc. little stuff....took me about 4.5 hours with
Drew pacing my garage filled with concern about seeing his NP231 split open..

El's build is a budget build, ie; no need to spend all the extra money on the SYE when a $250 or less driveshaft can solve this issue at hand..

and you can leave off the smartass remarks, fella......

It's nice to know that the drama is never ending in Amarillo. Can we rename the Amarillo section the Jerry Springer section.

I've personally lowered several t-cases on my own rigs and others and never seemed to have a problem and most had slip yokes. But like they said definately check into rotating that pinion up, that will make a huge difference but on the front dont get to carried away with moving the pinion up because your steering wont steer like you want

If you feel the need for the name calling you need to go somewhere else. This isnt the place for it.
