NM Family Trip Idea?

Ok, a friend of mine invited us to drive up to NM with his family to do maybe one or two days of skiing and one or two days of playing in the snow. They're driving, we'll fly and rent a jeep or something with 4wd. Anyone ever go anywhere cool up in NM, skiing is not a priority, really we want to do some exploring in jeeps with some snow on the ground. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Mario in FW

Rent a jeep and take it to Farmington, then post up the carnage pics
There is alot of places to wheel/ski around the Albuquerque area.

Red River, ah yes, I will check it out. Since we'll have the kids, the mellower the better.
Thanks Mario

When I was little we used to go visit family and drive up the mountain roads near Albq. There's lots of good scenery. Dont know about any skiing in the area though. Anglefire is also pretty nice.

Goose lake is supposed to be a nice bunny slope type trail. I was told the scenery was nice.
The guy I talked to took a stock late 90's Z71 up it. Said he had to make a bunch og 3 point turns.

I nearly got killed in RR when I was a kid......by my dad of all people! We nearly flipped an old school Land Cruiser off the side of a cliff. It is nice up there though. I think the last time I was there Goose Lake was off limits (years ago) due to an avalanche that had come through.

We were up there in July. Goose lake was open, But the river crossing was about three foot deep. There was still
3+ feet snowbanks up there on July 1st.
