I say shut the river down and charge a entry fee at the highway to get down there. If it can be done! It would cause a huge road hazard off highway 287 with the bumper to bumper traffic of people trying to get in!

I'm not in your area, but apparently you have some unfriendly off road people on the city council that need to go come election time. What is there reasoning behind shutting down a perfectly good event?

Be a real shame if the west texas outlaws or anyone else for that matter couldn't get permits but if they think that will keep 10'000 people from just showing up then they are crazy. People have been coming from miles around for years and years and will continue to weather or not there are sand drags. I can only hope that randal county and the west texas outlaws can come to a middle ground.

I say that Neil faggot is a joke, don't see someone posting that up in that way! If he's so powerful why talk about it.

I don't know if this will ever get solved, I just don't see people turning away. Are they going to fine everyone that goes? Are they going to fence it off so no one can enter...this I could see adding more problems, people around here are crazy.

I drove 5 plus hours and didn't even know they had sand drags that weekend. Guess it's hard to see things when you're working over a Fat PIG!!!

Hell, I've only been up there once and I could have told you that.

I hope things work out for the best for the river since I'd hate to see that place get taken away like most of the public land has.

i wouldnt call these type of people off road people at all. They are redneck dumbfuck's that dont give 2 shits about anything or anyone. Anyone that has anything to do with real offroad wouldnt do this expecially knowing the river is on the verge of being shut down.

Courtneys post.... i'd pay every time to go

I think the vandelism that happened over the weekend of the 4th is what pushed it over the edge. Trees and picnic tables being burnt up and the large amounts of trash left behind pisses anyone off and only gives the uppers more fire to shut it down.....and why shouldnt they if thats the way people are going to leave it when they go home from a weekend.

Sand draggers - forget having your 38th annual event. Myself and an entire team of attorneys from my lobbying firm out of Austin, Texas and Washington, DC fully intend on dominating the upcoming hearings before the Potter County Commissioner's Court regarding recinding the Texas Mass Gathering Act for the Sand Drags. I strictly oppose the eevent for multiple reasons, the following being the major points:
(1) Massive proven negative environmental damage to the natural setting onf the Canadian River bed.
(2) Lack of proper sanitary facilities (ie-out houses, sanitation stations, refuge disposal
(3) Over-taxing the Federal (US PArk Service Rangers), State (TX Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens) and County (Potter County Sheriff's Department) tasked with policing and enforcing the overgrown crowds gathered - all at taxpayers expense
(4) Acting as a magnet for the ilk of society and undesirable misfits who are naturally attracted to suck events. Potter County does not want or need your kind abusing our natural resources and gathering in large numbers posing a distinct criminal element.
(5) The distinct un-family-like nature of this conclave.

Forget it. You will be charged the FULL $2,500 Mass Gathering Act permit fee after myself and my team of lawyers testify before the Potter County Commission and offer salient evidence and arguements as to why the Sand Drags should certainly be charged the full fee. Furthermore, we will move to have this event and all events of this nature permanently banned from all watersheds and government-owned land within the Panhandle region.

You guys are WAY out-matched by experts with law degrees who are well above your pay grade, station in society and overall intelligence. FA GED A BOUD IT!

well i sey wee giv em a ride a tda riber and show hem whut hes gunna be missin out on........ what a peice of fuckn ****.....id love to meet this **** face

Where did you get that Eric?

No matter what, drags or no drags, people are still going to come from miles around on the last full weekend in February. I know I will, so they are going to have to fence it off which as of now is illegal. It's not a mass gathering is there is no event to come to. It's just another crowded weekend at the river!

As a non profit org you could apply for some lodgers tax money to pay for any expenses incurred to promote the event. I don't know if it would apply because the event is not held in the city of Amarillo, however many a piece of s**t low down drunken, meth headed, under age rapist (LOL) stay in hotels in Amarillo during this weekend.

I've been coming to this event since 1990 and it has gotten bigger.

It is getting to the point of a big party. (Last 4 years) Come on a dance pole!!

BUT the majority of the party is not at the drags and not at the mud bog. Most of the crazy s**t goes on elsewhere.

I personally have not seen any young girls getting pregnant while watching the mud bog. Trust me I would of noticed that.

We as a car club get, I think it was $7,000.00 last year for our car show here in Clovis. Something to look in to?? Could pay for the permit.

Do a fifty fifty drawing and pay for the permit that way.
Heck just ask for donations bet you get more than enough.
I'll kick in $20.00.

I'll put a donation box on my rig and go around asking for donations.

I know plenty of people around here that would kick in 20 if not more. The thing is, what would or could we use the money for. And building the trust of people donating, most people want to see what their money is going to. I would love for it to be a pay to play park. Hell at least some of it!

I was thinking it could pay for the mass gathering permit.

Or make a donation to the Shierifs Dept. Or pay to have the place cleaned up Monday.

I use to stay and help clean up on Monday. The WTO would have several poeple cleaning up I haven't seen that in the past 5-6 years.

Maybe some kind of trash can system. This would be a night mare tho for us to keep up with alone. Itd be nice if the state would actually fund a job where someone keeps up the park on a daily basis and where someone is always there on patrol. That would be a monster of a job though on busy weekends. i'll pitch in whatever 20-30 bucks. If someone wants to head this up put out an address and i'll send some moneys.

Idea

Ill send money too. My thoughts are, we talk to the local businesses that gain huge profit during " Sand drag" weekend...... Heck even just a normal outing to the river requires some type of part or a specific something... right? Just to name a few Amarillo Offroad, the local fab shops, or Sharps, David browns. ect.... Do these guys that own the companies realize the type of impact this would make towards there revenue.? Maybe they could make " Donations" to help cover the "mass gathering" permit. Idk maybe i am wrong...... LMK

cambruggeman just gettin started
I would definately pay to get in everytime.

Also, im in with Mike on asking for donations. the first 2500 raised could pay for the permit, everything over can pay for clean-up, porta-jons, maybe some new picnic tables or somthing if enough was raised.
