TORA and you...

I spoke to one of the local board members of TORA
and was informed that they will be set up at the river
over the Sand drag/Mud bog weekend....

they will have the off road permits for sale......
these stickers are available for members at $8 dollars each

for non-members to purchase a sticker, they will have to join
TORA for a first year membership fee of $20 dollars
and then TORA will sell up to 4 of the permit stickers
to each new member....

and, as I understand the law for 2009, ALL vehicles must display
the permit, including but not limited to:ATV's, dirtbikes, fourwheelers, 4x4 trucks, 2x4 trucks, cars, streetbikes.......doesn't matter if your ride is street legal or not, tagged/stickered or not---ALL vehicles used in or at an OHV
area public or State owned/operated must display the permit...

check it out at www.tpwd.tx.us/spdest/ohv/ under FAQ's
stickers are valid thru August 31st of the year of purchase...

The price of the sticker is $8

TORA is providing the ability to purchase the stickers
for it's members

as a service

the cost to join TORA for one year is $20

and the stickers are still $8 bucks, after you join, up to 4 stickers per
member......

nothing against TORA, but for anyone not wanting to join TORA, I suggest
you purchase your permits BEFORE you get down to the river....

Why would you not want to join?If not for Tora There would be no access to the then you would need no sticker.I'm a member and I would give them the extra 20$ sticker or not just to help keep the place open.

Yet you're not even a donating member on this board which allows you the ability to spread the word about the river in the first place. For shame!

I am not advocating to join or not to join.......

I had a problem with this last year, and now I understand what was really
going on.....Now I have no problem with TORA

The sale of the stickers by TORA at the river is a SERVICE that TORA
is providing FOR MEMBERS
.....

this is how it was explained to me and the gang at TORA checked with
the manager of the OHV program at the Texas Parks & Wildlife, and they were assured that all was well, and there is no illegal side to this....

all I meant as to my previous post, if anyone decides to wait to purchase,
TORA will only sell the stickers that they have to their members...

any Dealer who applies to purchase and resale the permits via fax or mail and receives the booklet of stickers to sell the stickers may do
so.....you have to purchase these stickers from the state and ahead of time in order to resell them.TORA is simply doing so for their members and any stickers they do not sell, they own...

Dont get me wrong -- I like TTORA and I am on their forum and wheel with the guys from there but I dont think it is right they wont sell a sticker to a "non-member". It only takes 5 business days to get the stickers from the state and there is alot of business that sell them (and dont make you be a member of their organization first) I dont remember anything about needing a license to sell the stickers first.

sorry, I mis-worded that... OHV Dealers can purchase the stickers in books of 10
for $80 per booklet....stickers must be re-sold at face value without sales tax being added

any upcharge to the sale of the sticker itself (readrofit) is forbidden

individuals can only purchase the stickers for themselves and not for resale.

There are going to be a few other venders out at the river that weekend selling the OHV stickers. They will only be charging the $8.00, so you will not have to join TORA to get stickers.

TORA is a great advocate for TX 4xers and offroaders alike, either go get you permits early from somewhere, join TORA and get it, or join TORA and buy it at the sand drags along with your membership. These stickers arent for TORA to make money. I see no problem with them not selling someone a sticker if they dont want to support TX offroading.

No it is only for any truck, atv, or dirt bike that is using the off road parks.

I agree we should all support any organization that works to keep the offroading available to us. But I dont agree if a group or club tries to get members due to having to have an OHV sticker -- support the clubs because that is what you want to do. I am a member of several off road clubs -- but no one is making me do it -- it is because I believe in what they are doing.

TPWL is asking for money from the TX legislature to make about 20 miles of the Canadian an OHV park. They will be considering the 385 bridge at Boy's Ranch all the way to the 287 bridge. I think it is a good idea. They will possibly charge an admission fee, plus have a full time staff to patrol the area. There are also talks of TX acquiring the federal lands in the Rosita Creek area.

Here are some links and some answers to the above questions ---

What types of vehicles are required to have a Texas OHV decal?
Any type of OHV, ATVs, motorcycles, full sized OHVs, or other types of OHVs used at venues where OHV recreation is legal and which are located on public lands, or at private OHV venues which have received TPWD OHV grant monies, are required to have a current Texas OHV decal properly mounted on the vehicle before riding.

Do street-legal vehicles need the OHV decal when riding at an OHV venue located on the public lands of Texas?
Yes, street legal motorcycles, street legal full-sized vehicles, full-sized 2-wheel drive vehicles, and 4-wheel drive vehicles need a Texas OHV decal when trail riding on public land. Use of street-legal OHVs on private land or on public roads does not require the Texas OHV decal.

Here is a link to find out all questions and answers and to purchase OHV stickers

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/ohv/buy.phtml

I am sorry EZ -- but a Tow Rig is not considered "OHV" because you are not "Riding" on the trails -- you are just using it to get your rig there.

Us as the TTR (Toyota Trail Riders) did research and asked the questions before our Jamboree this year to make sure we were following the rules.

Hope this helps people out -- if not -- call the # in the link.
