Why cant the state just issue a waiver ( weekend pass)?

I saw this on the news today...This is really just silly...Why can't they just make an exception for Fri-Sun and let people enjoy a weekend outside with their friends and family members, enjoying motorsport activities...maybe Im just getting spun up over nothing, but I think the lack of planning from the state, shouldnt negatively effect everyone else...The state says they aren't ready to issue a new sticker due to new design, but they had a whole year to work on it....And they doubled the price?...What the heck??!

And Courtney, I owe you a sticker, so Ill get you one this year...

Sounds like the State found a way to make up some revenue.
if you have a 2011 they will prolly just leave you alone. Hopefully it runs off the no speaks and cleans up the place......

I feel for y'all. You should be able to pay for the permit, have a receipt and that should count. Just because you don't have a physical sticker at the fault of the state shouldn't bar you from enjoying the weekend. But this is Texas politics at its finest.

Just curious? How come you haven't gotten your sticker yet?

Silly manny,

The stickers go out in august and the state HASN'T ISSUED THE NEW STICKERS YET. Understand? Not lack of planning on our part..

I got a call today from the state and I'll have 10 stickers tomorrow. Whats the big deal? If you had sent in a request soon enough you would have your stickers. (I sent my request in a month ago). They did go up to $16.00 bucks that comes out to $1.33 a month still not a bad deal. Co. stickers are $25.00 I bought one last year for a 3 day weekend.
Anyone wants your welcome to one...... delivery charge will be extra.

I buy a book every year and they overnight them for free if you buy 10 or more.

If the shops in Amarillo that sell them have pre ordered them thay should have them tomorrow also.

Sent in the request a month ago. They called said the stickers weren't available yet. Then today I got a call saying they were going to ship.

So no one in the amarillo area can get them(aparently because they forgot, seems hard to believe) and are suppose to be out for this weekend except for you? Doesn't matter to me cause I have too much going on this weekend to go wheelin but would love to see pics of them in your hand tomorrow.

Doesnt really effect me either since I wont have any time to go out there, but Im willingto bet it will effect alot of people in our area... I wouldnt want a silly warning ticket and Im sure no one else would want one either...Even if they got the stickers tomorrow, with the local demand they would all be gone by Friday afternoon Im sure...Just seems the state could simply make a waiver policy for 3 days or not bother anyone for the first holiday weekend in the new 2012 sticker cycle and let people enjoy their holiday weekend...Like I said, either way I wont be out on the trails this weekend, but for some reason I just think the whole thing is silly and poor prior planning...

I can't go either. My rigs not ready and no money for the trip.

Heck it's not just Amarillo it's the whole state.

Anyway I would assume that anyone that was going to sell the stickers would of had them on order before the day before they are needed. Right? So I would also assume that anyone that had sent in a request to purchase stickers would of got the same call as I did today. Thats just the way I think.

If I get them I post up a pic!

So wtf was so different about the new design that constituted the delay? Can you notice anything different about them from last years Mike?

Does this mean that they will be here in a town too?

Yep three things are diff. The edges are squared off instead of rounded, they are red and white not green and white, and they have a 12 on them instead of an 11.

No telling. You get more than one Gov. employee involved in a decision, think they call it red tape. I do know that last year anybody selling the stickers was not allowed to mark them up. I heard they were going to change that. I didn't read anything yet about if that has changed. The price increase could be just keeping up with printing and shipping costs. Free overnight delivery isn't cheep. How long have they been $8.00? I know our car club dues was less than the cost of printing and mailing the monthly news letter. (We've gone to email as much as we could).

I think they should charge more myself. Kinda like a luxury tax. Then use the money to make things better for the off roaders. The price is not enough to help much as far as helping with the management and policing of the resources. I'll bet there's not much left over after printing, shipping, and wages paid to the employees running the program. We sink thousands of dollars in are rigs year after year, an increase for the cost of the permit won't make any diff, hell it's only the cost of 4 gls of gas.

I couldn't agree with you more. Make the stickers more expensive and start using the extra profit made off of them to help make the public land a better place to go. Even if the stickers cost $100. I would still buy one even if they cost $500!
