Dana 70 or ?

A dude had a rear axle for a G30 van to sell, That axle should have been a 14BFF but when I got there it was a Dana 60. What the heck I bought it any way. I rented a trailer and it was some miles to go. I started to read stuff about the D60 rear and its nothing for me. To day I checked it out and I think its a Dana 70 or?

Its 35 spline shafts same size as my inner Dana 60 front shafts. Axle tubes are 3,5" and the ring is bigger than my D60.

I think you found a good D70 to have. Some have 16 spline shafts. Id trim some off the bottom for clearance & bolt it up. That axle should last you forever without any problems.

Sounds good. It would nice to have the two piece differential but you cant get it all right always.

Well I gonna use 4:88 and I guess that could be found for 14BFF also.

Is the Dana 70 weaker than the 14BFF?

I got the axle for 1000Skr that ~140USD

I've read that the 70 is actually stronger than the 14. I think they were referring to the axle shafts. I know the 14B has an extra bearing on the nose of the pinion (just like a 9") that the Dana axles don't have.

Better make sure it aint a Dana 70-3HD, there aint no aftermarket gears for that thing, thats what i got stuck with. Check the diff on the pinion side to see whats stamped on the diff.

Do mean on the carrier it self?

The axle is marked 3 13 0 6 A DS 05 02 3 HNA on the tube.

look at the differential housing itself,on the pinion side where the housing slants down there should be a 70 and a letter stamped, or just a 70, that tells you what model.

well, i looked everywhere, that axle has a crazy offset. The 70-3hd only came with 4.10 or 4.56 from factory. There is a locker for it but its $660.00. Other than that there is no aftermarket options.

Sold the Dana 70.

I have to say its a rigid and nice axle but the 70 has a drawback, the 0,969" offset.I have checked there are gears for it but not lower than 4:56. It would be an option to make a spacer and put in a gear set for a 0.625" of set axle. I have the wrong carrier also, so I sold it.

I'm going to check out a 14BFF 70" on Saturday.
