4.0l swap

looking for someone to help me with my project. i have a 1984 cj7 w/ a 258 and a recently rebuilt and swapped tf999 ( previously had the t-5). i also have a 1993 4.0l ho inline 6 with all the wiring and computer that i want to swap into my cj. i recently did some preventive maintenance on the 4.0 like waterpump, timing chain, oil pump, cleaned the intake and injectors, powder coated the headers, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.etc.etc. who can help in my cj's heart transplant. really anxious to get this started. thanks in advance.

johnny is a good friend of mine and he has helped me on alot of projects before, but when i called him to give me a hand he said he doesn't do those swaps any more (swapping out a carb for fuel injection). i assume it is because of the wiring or other problems.

anyone know of any one else in the valley that is competent enough to help me out?

i think i know why. but anyway, look up Popeye's Racing in Harlingen. Robert's the owner & he's a cool guy. He's into the whole mud drags scene. He does a lot of motor swaps *mainly V8s* but I'm sure he could help you out. I don't have his # off the top of my head though.

You're gonna need something for a crank position sensor. I hear there's a kit that works off the harmonic balancer. Or you put in a trans from behind a 4.0 that has provisions for a CPS.

You'll need a wiring diagram for both the donor vehicle (of the 4.0) and your CJ so that you can painstakingly (but worth it) splice the new to the old (for gauges, starter, etc.).

The biggest expense will be overcoming the CPS thing. After that it's just patience.

Oh yeah, you're gonna need an O2 sensor in the exhaust pipe. If you got the exhaust pipe with the 4.0, it should be in there. Otherwise, a muffler shop should be able to weld in a bung so that you can screw in an O2 sensor.

Oops, another thing: you'll need a fuel injection fuel pump. The 4.0 needs at least 35-40 psi to function (ask me how I know). The factory fuel pump puts out at least 80 psi (ask me how I know), but you may not want to mess with a factory setup since it's inside the gas tank. If a CJ doesn't have a fuel return line, you have to have one of those for the extra fuel to go back to the tank.

swap

i have the complete engine w/ headers and y pipe w/ o2 sensor. i also have the complete 4.0l wiring and computer out of the 93 donor vehicle. the engine is complete from radiator to flywheel and i just ordered the hesco cps this morning. i already purchased an electric fuel pump to mount on the crossmember and have already rebuilt the engine. i will be keeping my freshly rebuilt and swapped in tf 999 and the 4.0l is literally ready to bolt in. i just need to pull out my engine and swap in my 4.0l. my only issue is with the wiring, i dont want to mess anything up with the wiring. thanks for all the advise but i would rather let a professional handle the wiring, or if anyone wants to hang out i would really appreciate it.

You need to clarify this.

"roars strong" implies that it starts
"won't crank" says the engine won't turn, like it's locked up, or the starter is not running.
