frame cracking question

hey guys, the reason I'm posting this is here is because I'm looking for someone local to help fix my problem..

my problem is my frame keeps cracking around my steering box on my k5 blazer, i know its a common thing, but I'm getting tired of dealing with it at this point. I've tried small bracing and such, and it will last for a while but it isn't a complete fix because well, it keeps cracking

so at this point I'm willing to dish out the $210 to get the ORD bracing kit, just no idea who or where to take it to install it. i don't have a so i cant exactly do it myself,

anyone know where i can take it or anyone willing to help?

thanks in advance guys!

Re: frame cracking question

Are you still running push/pull steering? Go to crossover and assist if you are, this will help relieve a lot of stress. Clean up the frame, drill holes at end of cracks and weld the cracks all up. Install a GOOD brace/support and you should be good to go.

Big is absolutely correct. The push/pull was totally inadequate for stock, let alone the stresses we put on these trucks wheeling. The cross-over may seem like a big expense, but will pay dividends in the end.

If you must stay with push pull, then get the weld on brace and the bolt on bracket from ORD. Both are the best avenue to help with the steering gear box.

As for the cracks, Big is right. Drill out a small hole at the end of the cracks. These holes will prevent the crack from spider webbing or continuing. Also "V" channel your cracks as best you can. When welding this will give a channel for the weld to bite and you will have a much better weld.

You can look on my userid and you will see the step by step thread I did on installing the two kits. I didn't have any cracking, thank God, but I wasn't about to take any chances. There is NO WAY that steering gear box is going anywhere now.

Best of the best to you in doing this repair.

Manny

frame cracking question

I'd trust Rob for sure. My rear shaft held up and he welded it with a he had never used, in the dark, and half drunk.
