How far should I go if it's just me and my girlfriend? Some of my co-workers were saying some crazy **** happens and figured a lot of y'all knew the places to stay away from.

I've only been out as far as "4x4 road" a few times and its been pretty tame. Seems like a powerful place tho where tides or soft sand could get you in trouble. Especially alone and out further where tracks aren't fresh.

I would like to go out to the end, but I am truckless for a few weeks. My wifey has my F250 in N.Y. with her. After the end of April I'm interested!

I know it's a little late, but it really depends on the weather, what the tides are doing, and the wind. If the wind has been calm and/or it has rained fairly recently, you should have no issues. If the wind has been howling and the sand is dry (like it has), it gets pushed around and "fluffed" up a bit that can get a little hairy when you're 40 miles from help. Same thing with the tides, they can help by packing the sand and they can hurt you by coming up to the dunes.

Typically you can run close to the water if the surf is small and stay on the packed stuff, but if the surf has any size to it, the water will come up to get you at times. (Not necessarily swallow you, but get saltwater all over your truck.) You donít want that rust!

If it is during any kind of tropical weather, i.e. tropical storm, depression, wave, hurricane, etc. the tidal surge will change everything. There are places where the water comes all the way up to the dunes and at times you have to time it just right to haul arse to get across before the next wave comes in. That is not really a concern since most people stay clear during those times since itís too rough to fish and not pleasant to hangout.
Use common since, carry your momentum through the soft stuff, donít stomp on the breaks, donít peel out, WATCH FOR WASHED UP TREES and DEBRIS and airdown your tires only if you must (closest air pump is about 20 miles from the beach entrance. (You can get back on the public beach shortly after the PINS exit and save your tires that way, but it'll add another 20-30 minutes or so to your trip.)

It's not a bad idea to take gun too. There has been an increase in drug and human trafficking since they've stepped up the border effort. (Just a precautionary measure.)

Hope that helps.

Other than that, have fun and watch your gas gauge. You can drive as far as the jetty if you really feel up to it.

Hi ya'll, refresh my memory, How far down is little shell and big shell. I went down there 20 years or so ago but I can't remember now how far it was. lol sounds like things have changed a bit. Used to never see anybody down there except an occasional fisherman.
