Who does ring and pinion setups?

Hey fellow Corpians glad to see something like this is around and that there are other 4x4 freaks in the neighborhood. I am looking if anyone knows of someplace that is reasonable to have ring and pinions setup on my '90 Chevy Blazer. Just too much money on the line for me to venture off into that mod myself. PLEASE let me know if you have any good references.... mesaged ProMuffler about it and they gave me a quote that exceede $1000 just to do the install if I supplied the gears and installation kits... whoa!

If you want to come North of San Antonio, the GEAR GUY in Spring Branch does a great job.

yes. lol quality cost. we are not cheap but you also get the best you can get. we are not the affordable option for lots of people and we know that and that is why we charge for what we do. we setup gears for shops all over town and we are good at it. we book a week in advance and i think that says something about us. our staff is great and we take pride in our work. it is an older truck and you can get someone to install the gears in their backyard and when they whine you will see the difference. also we charge more for customer supplied parts and with no warranty. it is still a business. we dont do what we do for nothing.

yes, so he did it for free, 700 buck alone would pay for the parts. i dont work for free, if he does that is fine. he can take the business, i have plenty. my point is i dont RIP anyone off. there are too many cheap people that want everything for free. trust me i like a good deal. but i dont ask for free. i will pay for quality and that is what im trying to get across. you got a super deal. and im happy for you on that. toyotas are easy. matter of fact my 12 year old is learning on them. my shop is far from the cheating and stealing or RIP OFF kind. end of story. when i hear this i first think i want to get upset but you know what, it helps. it gets our name out. more and more but when your booked a week in advanced it shows another side. we do good work and that is what people want. you can eat at mcdonalds all day and get crap for cheap. or you can get a good steak and enjoy it. which would you rather have.?????????????????????????????

Personally I love steak -- I am not trying to say anything about you or your company -- heck I dont even know who you are -- you have 2 posts on here so I have nothing to say about you good or bad. I was just stating a fact about the guy (Baertrax) who did my gears - if I am not mistaken a couple of people on here know of him and would probably agree with me on his work. You are right -- I got a great deal -- for several reasons -- one he is a good friend of ours and we went through some sh*t and he gave us a break.

So dont get your panties in a wad -- I was not doubting you or saying anything negative about you or your company. Just wanted those up North here to know of an awesome place to get their gears done.

I can vouch for MrPeal, he knows what he is doing and has some great guys at his shop (that are actually on this board as well). Whenever anyone asks me where to have stuff worked on i try to send em to Pro.

1K just for setting up a R&P? lol. Are the axles made of rare, delicate porcelain?

NoLove I suggest either contact bigevil for some help or make a trip to Houston or Austin and with the money you save, go out have a nice dinner and buy some nice new shoes. Leave the 1K installs for dem rich boiz...no wonder you're always trading up on projects David lol

well first thing i must say is we are going strictly by someone saying i quoted that. i have never quoted a 1000 dollar quote for labor alone on any ring and pinion. although if someone came in asking for me to setup front and rear 60s and arb lockers ect ect then yes it could get that high. i offer good work and for those of you that know me and have said nice things i thank you. i back up my work and my point of this in the first place was not that my panties were in a wad by anymeans but the fact that the internet is a place where people can talk crap and base it on what someone says out of the blue.
end of story chances are if I did quote a grand for gears, then most likely i was pricing him out the door and didnt want to work on the truck. if the truck is rusty and junky, i dont want my name on it anywhere and ill price it accordingly. we take pride in everything we do.
toylady, yes i only have a couple post. i dont frequent web forums much anymore. i was more involved with wfo-offroad and ramcharger central back a few years along with lone star. i have just become much too busy and i dont wheel anymore as i have to devote more time to my business and less to play these days.

so far from what i have seen everyone is good people. and i like everyone else dont jump to conclusions but the remark about (ripping you off) bothers me as i dont rip anyone off. and conclusions were made from what someone said out loud. have him post up my estimate if i did

Exactly why I never used the term "ripping you off"...How about what was quoted under the 1K price?

84toylady, you said you know you got a good deal, he gave you a break, and he is a good friend of yours?? If thats the case how is it even remotely possible to compare that price to the price of a shop quoting a total stranger??? BIG difference there. Like I said, I know MrPeal, I know his employees, hell I know his parents that own the shop as well. they are all stand up people, just there to do quality work and get people fixed up like they need to be. They aren't the cheapest place in town, no doubt, but they are one of if not the best IMO. You could go to a dealer and get a quote of WAY more than that probably, and you could get a guy in the adsack to do it for $100, BUT 9 times out of 10 you get what you pay for. You are trying to save money, I respect that, hell I do the same, however look at the flipside, they are trying to run a business there and they have to profit. Just noticed that you said you messaged pro muffler about the install, you didn't even go in there and face to face talk to em???? I bet they get 100's of messages and just have to toss number out because 95% of them are BS and never really gonna have the work done. However, when you show up face to face and actually speak to them, they know you are more serious, and can actually explain the cost, and what all in entailed to you. I know thats how I do my work when I have to give prices, can't give an accurate price until you see what you are working with. Just something else to think about there.

Yeah well the whole crap got started when he said "I" got "ripped off" -- not a quote -- actual bill -- it would have cost $100 more for joe blow off the street -- $100 may not be alot to some but it is too me -- believe me I price stuff dont just jump at the first thing. It just ticked me off -- sorry.

Oh yeah maybe me using the words "ripped off" talking about a quote that was "in excess of $1000" was not the right choice -- heck I aint no business trying to put my name out there -- kinda makes me wonder when I get ripped with the same words by a business who is trying to defend himself.

Like I said I dont know the guy or his company -- if yall say he does good work -- maybe he does -- I was just putting out there the gear guy we use -- cause he does awesome work and someone up here might wanna know.

cactuspatch just gettin started
I am from Corpus, grew up here, in my early 40's now. I am not a big rock crawler, but I like my 4x4's for hunting etc. I will say I have heard nothing but good things on Promuffler, I have never used them myself.
I have used CC Ring and Pinion and have no complaints . IMHO Larry does a great job.......not cheap, but quality work.
