22r and pane

Well the time has come to do the pane swap on the f-toy and was wondering what everyone was using for an adapter from the 22r carb base plate and an impco 200. I already have the 200 and a converter so I'm kinda commited to seeing this through. I have VERY limited knowledge of propane. I have an e-mail and pm out to arqdennis with no results and also an e-mail out to "propane guy" even though he has closed shop to see if he had any "stock" left. Thanks in advance.

Ok just got an e-mail from arqdennis who was making the adapters in this thread http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=490223
I must have read something wrong because he said he never made an adapter to go from the 22r toy carb base to the impco 200. He only makes them for the impco 100 to toy carb base then an aditional adapter is used to mount the 200 to that.

Is this what everyone is using?
He told me that if I can get 10 orders together the price would be lower.
Does anyone need an adapter?

I'll try and find out what this other mystery adapter is(pn#)

Yep, that is the way I have my impco 225 mixer mounted up. If I can find my receipt I can get the p/n for the impro adapter you need.

Thanks Bruiser, but I have started making my own adapter. With the help of Yotaguy I came up with some drawings and will be using a two plate system consisting of two half inch steel plates. Will get some pics up once I have something worth looking at.

I got lucky and got one of propane guys adapters. It is a two piece design. The only person I know that makes a one piece is Cary from Got Propane dot com. He will NOT sell just the adapter.....dont know why. I will tell you this and I think Bruiser will back me up on it. If you dont have anything to start with call Cary and get one of his kits. There is so much little BS that you have to have, like 'T' fittings and clamps and this hose and that. By the time you run to town to get those 50 times your home brew save a dime shat has started to cost you an arm and a leg. If you wanna put your own stuff together I can help you out but do I really recommend it......not really.

Thanks for the advice Thumper but the only reason I'm going the piece-together route is I can't afford the initial sticker shock of a $1000 kit. It might take me longer to get all the parts together but I'm cool with that. To me fab'n parts is half the fun!

I do agree with Thumper 100% on Cary's kit.

I also understand the inital cost of his kits. That's why I've got 2 steering rocks with missing parts, they both were under 500 bones. So yeah I can pc them back together and still have 2 rebuilt steering rocks for less than I could have bought 2 from a vendor/supplier.

Ok so I got off the phone with what can only be descibed as the GOD of pane(thanks Dott) and he basically told me that the impco 200 was a little on the heafty side for a 22r, that a 125 would be more bueno. He said it would work but lower end would be where the performace could suffer. So I will continue on with the adapter fabrication... Pics coming by weekend.

I have to disagree with that! A 200 is PERFECT. A 125 and you are gonna be choking at the top of the RPM range. I have read all the charts for propane and CFM for carbs and yeah if it is on an industrial motor that runs at 1500 rpms all its life the 125 is probably about right. If you wanna have an RPM range the 125 is gonna sell you short. You can put a 425 on it and it will run fine too......I have not seen this in person but SEVERAL people on Pirate are running them with sucess. The motor will only suck in as much propane as it needs. But if it aint there (with a 125) then your screwed. Plus you already got the 200 why change it? If I remember right 84Toylady is running a 125 and I dont think they really like it.

What regulator you gonna be running?

Just my $.02, Im out.

I smell what your step'n in but what I can't get my head around is why is there no middle ground say 155-150? You can get carbs in all different flavors why not these? And yea I like the WFO stuff too much to sacrifice it

It seems like there is a 150 of some sort. Not real popular cause I dont think it is needed for anything. The smaller 1.X liters run the CA100 and CA125's and the bigger ones the 200's. Then the 6's mostly run the CA300. Cary recommends the CA200 I KNOW FOR A FACT! He has been in this very argument on Pirate many times. I support and agree with the CA200.

What is WFO stuff? Did I miss something? Edit.....Wide F-in Open right?? Me too, go with the 200 man!!

We do have the 125 and we think there is something wrong with the setup or something -- we can only get 3000 rmp out of it -- it is a pieced together system - we got parts in a box and tried to put it together -- we need to do more research and find out what is wrong - but I have heard the 125 is good for the 22r also -- so we will see when we got the time. The low end is great but only have 3000 rpm's bites!

It might be because of the plate that we made to adapt it to the motor -- but all of that is on hold -- no working on the truck or anything -- trying to get out of debt!

Every thread, every link and every link in those links Cary chimed in and said the 200 was the way to go this is why I bought it. Is this what your running? Does the reg/conv I have sound right? I know rednecktoy was/is running a 125 and from what I could see his ran great.

I am running the Impco CA200. I am also running a Woodward (Impco generic) Model E regulator (Cary also recommends the Model E). There is also a Model J and a Model E. J is small and the E is roughly the same as the L. Here is some reading for you.....yes I know if you do the math it will say to use a 125 carb but Im telling you its not for the kinda "F*** the world, throw a brick on the gas pedal and hang on" type of wheeling I do.

http://cars.rasoenterprises.com/Propane-Impco.htm

I think the Cobra you have is gonna be of the smaller variety but Im not totally sure on that. I bought my Model E from Nash Lift Truck Supply, they are all over Ebay but I just called and talked to Bill Nash (owner)

I would leave the converter alone. I was originally gonna run the CA225 and a Model J cause that is what I had. I ended up selling that to Bruiser. I now have the CA200 and Model E. If 5K RPM 2nd gear clutch dumps with the front end bouncing a foot in the air are your style then we need to wheel together sometime!!!!

Pics as promised
This is how it started as two paper templates, one of the carb side, and one of the base side. I offset the carb hole slightly

and this is what the final outcome was

here is the carb side bolted down

here is the base plate bolted up

here are the two together

I still have to drill through the bottom plate to gain access to the carb bolts, notch out for the "bal" port and smooth out the ports for max flow. I bent the idle adjustment tab up on the carb base and will weld a nut on the side of the plate to run a screw for adjustment.

Looks good man! I think it will work. You need to turn that carb around 180 degrees and then go to Vato Zone to the mexican chrome section and you can get a little rubber adapter, a chrome elbow and a filter to fit them.

I just used the factory accelerator cable and hooked it up just like I had a carb on it.

Haha...I didn't notice I had it on backwards, good thing I didn't weld it up yet. I understand the rubber adapter but why do I need an elbow? That carb has a square bolt pattern so I could just turn it 90* right? Would there be any reason I couldn't mount it to where the air filter pionts at the firewall? Is the filter I need in the chrome section also? Thanks for the props, I think it will be mo betta once I flow it a little.
