350 Chevy help!!!

OK guys what could I be overlooking. If I'm correct the only thing a engine needs to start is fuel, spark and air. Why in the hell will this thing not even try to start?

Suppose to be a good motor. Getting spark and gas,to the point of we have flooded it. Ive replaced the dist, the cap, rotor, plugs and wires. Even if the timing was WAY off it should atleast try and backfire or something. BUT NOTHING

Not always. check the timing.

And is the spark at the plug yellow or blue in color?

My memory is bad...but do check this.
Remove dist. cap and look at the rotor. Remove the #1 spark plug and coil wire. Now, have a buddy get ready to bump the engine over. Stick you finger over the #1 spark plug hole. Now have your Buddy bump the engine over....a click at a time until the pressure blows your finger back. You should be at TDC at this pint. Look at the rotor. IT should be pointing straight at the #1 spark plug. In which I mean that metal little tab at the end of the rotor.
If not. Remove the bolt that is under the dist. that holds it down. Remove dist and reset it until the rotor is pointing at it. Reinstall the single bolt, cap. spark plug, wire to the coil and give it a shot.
Now to give some life to the engine. I suggest using starting fluid (for engines not the stuff you use to BBQ.)
One question I have is how are you checking the spark?
Now I may be old school and just a plan dumbass. While you have your #1 spark plug out. Connect it to the spark plug wire and ground the side of the spark plug. You should see a spark at the tip of it......of course that is having your buddy turn the engine over. And of course you did remember to connect the coil wire back before you do this check.
and if all that check out. I would move on to compression test. if that checks out.
Re check your spark plug wires to make sure they are in firing order.
and if nothing............You got me?
I hope that helps you some.

By the way this a mid 70's motor with an HEI so eletronics are not the problem.

At #1 TDC rotor is right on the money.

My buddy was watching the spark as I was cranking so I cant say, he did say it was a little weak, but not bad.

I played with it a little more and it almost started, but it got dark on m eso I will hit it again tomorrow,

Valves to tight, weak compression, bad or weak coil, ignition module, timing 180* out...

This is a pretty hot motor. Havn"t done a offical compression test yet, just a finger in the spark plug hole and it will almost blow you finger off the end of your hand.

coil and module were both changed when I changed the dist.

timing is not 180 out its dead on.

Got it to run a little (well start anyway) It needs new oil so I only let it run a few seconds. Turns out it was never flooded. The carb is screwed so I was just pouring gas in it and as it turns out it takes a CRAP LOAD of gas to get this thing to fire. I poured till I thought it was enough and then poured more till I thought it was WAY to much and then poured more.... But she lives!!!!

Anyone have a good BIG 4 barrel carb they need to get rid of?

I have an Edelbrock Model 1411 Performer 750 with electric choke that I will let go cheap. Available for immediate shipment. It could probably use a rebuild, but it functions, as I had my engine running with it on there. PM me if interested.

I will throw in the off-road needle and seat kit #1465

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

A rebuild kit for it is cheap at about $40 at Summit (#1477)

lol Turns out after a quick glance at the rule book I have to run a stock carb and intake. To be honest everything has to be stock (well almost) You have to pull 15" of vacuum so that limits your cam selection and no roller valvetrain. Maybe in a couple yrs I will move up a class.

rebuild a Qjet, it's rated at 750-800 depending on the model.

Also they can be tweaked to run hot and heavy.
