454 crank in 427?

well i spun a main today and i dont wanna risk this crank anymore its been turned 20-30 so i have a std-std 454 crank polished ready to go, whats the verdict on putting it in the 427? is that doable or just something crazy i thought of in my head.

justin1970 just gettin started
All you have to do is put 454 pistons in it " the wrist pin is in a different location" and it will work.

No problem. It will drop right in.

BUT you have to use 454 pistons. And if it's a tall deck, either 6.535 long rods or special made pistons.

Personally, I would get the 427 crank checked to see if it will turn 40-40. They are very durable forged crankshafts, and I have built both BBCs and SBCs with 40 under crankshafts without a problem.

Also to turn the crank and all new bearings will cost like $200-250, versus a LOT more if you have to buy new pistons, rings, bearings, flywheel and balancer. (Balancer and flywheel won't interchange).

You should also factor in the cost of resizing the rods and new rod bolts, and new cam bearings.

The first order of business would be to find out why it spun a bearing anyways.

A new Scat 9000 crankshaft goes for $325 at most places for a 454.

New set of bearings and a new crankshaft should get you going again unless the bearing spun due to improper size journal on the block.

ill give it a lookin, the crank spun a bearing due to improper assembly im thinking, i broke that thing it like it was 100k motor but i bought it crate on cl and it had sat for a while and i know better than ever run a crate motor i should have gone through it my self but i was impatient, yes it is a tall deck motor. i found a std/std crank for this thing for 250 but i am going to pull this one and have my machinest look at it first.and yes i would hate to have to buy everything new again this stuff only have around 500 miles on it. ill pull the motor this week and let yall know the verdict on what happen

just wanna throw this out there for those who are familier with the td blocks i wanna make sure i did this right and this wasnt the cause of a fast engine fail. i used 427 td crank. i used rods that were 6.535. and i used just some regular ol bbc "car" pistons is what i was told they were. had this all balanced too. i spun a bearing after about 300 miles only givin it hell one good time.
