454 head Identification

Outside of pulling the valve covers....I know I'm lazy....actually I am about to pull them this weekend...

What is the best guess on whether I have open or closed port heads on my Suburban....

I think I remember the exhaust ports being square as opposed to being round......

Just wondering?

I'm not sure if the BBs are the same, but the SBs have a marking cast into the end of the head. Like a triangle or two humps, etc. Most likely you just have the plain low perf. peanut port heads if it's a truck engine.

OK the only info I can find out about these heads is the following from Moretec.

Casting # 14081045

78-87 truck oval(round) port ~ open chamber

I know these are non~HP as well as non~peanut heads

Does anyone have a book or an online source other than Mortec?
