700r4 & Np231 fluid
Are they supposed to share fluid?
I'm thinking not and guessing that might be why my trans is slipping -- cros-contamination. Or does the xfer case use dextron as well. Can't remember, but I thought it was clear fluid last time I checked it. This time ATF poured out the fill hole! Thanks! |

I'm not going to claim to be an expert here, but I believe the t-case should use gear oil. I know there's a seal on the tailshaft of the 700r4/208 that's pretty easy to booger up, and it'll leak out both sides of the adapter.

Gear driven t-cases use gear oil. The 231 should use ATF, as do the 241 and 208. The 203 uses 10w30.
Check your vent holes. If they are plugged up the pressure buildup can push fluid past the seals.

No, the 203 did not use gear oil. It used motor oil.
