700r4 overhaul

Me and Reddog are getting prepared to rebuild a 700r4. I know about the corvette servo, and some of the tools needed... where is the best place to get a complete overhaul kit. I'd like to have a reverse manual ( manual reverse? ) valve body as well.
You guys that have rebuilt your own tranny's, how big a chore is it and what kinda tips or tricks do you have? Who has the best OH manual?

I used a Haynes manual when I did mine. Good photos and instructions. For a tip? Give yourselves plenty CLEAN work area. If at all possible don't do this job in a shop with no walls or ceiling with a gravel floor. Don't loose the little copper ball labled "E", but especially if your floor is gravel. I read through the manual first so I had an idea what to expect when I opened the valve body etc. Not so bad of a job.

I don't know. Carrie was working at ABC Auto then but she also knows some of the shops around Longview. She made some calls and brought home the kit the next day.

It's sad but I've come to depend on her to find parts for me. She got on the phone when the rear went out on the burb. When I went down to pick it up the guy behind the counter asked "You Carrie's husband?" after I told them what I was there for.

bigblazer8484 will become famous soon enough
I have rebuilt a few and have found out that a good friend at the local tranny shop is an invaluable source for information, specialty tools, and just a good backup for advice. As of parts i have found that you really get what you pay for. I try to avoid cheap prices and non-USA made parts for reliability.

have you guys changed the kickdown pump

I've seen the lil doomahickey thingamabobber that adjusts when the tranny downshifts to 3rd in OD at 1/2 throttle... they make one that goes up to 3/4 tranny before it shifts...

ya'll happen to know if you have to remove the valve body to replace that or can it be done just by dropping the pan?
