Average Tranny Rebuild Cost?

Pretty self explanatory... Average 700R4 4wd tranny needing rebuilt. Anyone know average cost for factory type parts? How much you think I can save if I pull it myself?

Thanks

Project needs some help

I didn't have any luck in the engine/tranny section so I thought I'd try here..

My tranny needs a rebuild, and I don't want to call any shops right now and have them hound me for info they don't need.

I was wondering what the average cost of a rebuild has been for some of you guys. It's a 700r4 4wd.. If I pull it and reinstall it, I should save quite a bit of money right?

Thanks

Be patient. You only posted the original post yesterday. Most of the regular posters on this site are gone wheeling for the weekend.

I would consider the warranty issues of R&R.If it doesn`t hold up they can always say you did something wrong to cause it.Just my .02.

Next quetion, a fellow on here has a 700R4 for sale that came from an 86 K5. Would this work for my app.? The only problem I see is that the truck that needs the tranny is a v6, and I'm assuming the K5 is a v8.

Thanks

If your v6 is a 4.3 it will be the same bell housing. The last 700 I had rebuilt cost me about 1500 but, it was built to be bullet proof. Plano transmission was about 450 for an exchange about 1yr ago.

Its going to cost you a bit more but when I had my th350 rebuilt I was seriously looking into a 700r4/203/205 combo. I checked all around the net and local shops (granted this was in alaska and stuff costs a bit more up there) and for the money and warranty stuff TCI was the best bet... Bad *** tranny for about 1600... which ended up being what I paid to have my damn th350 rebuilt again. If youre just running a v6 though with no future plans for an upgrade wait till someone, more than one person (tranny shops are kind of like strip clubs, you might find one person who likes the dive just because they get a little cut rate action in the back room but the vast majority will tell you to spend a couple extra bucks and get a quality product that will put a smile on your face...) and have them do the corvette servo and related stuff to it. Good luck
