the whole problem is i spent way too much on the crate tranny that ony lasted a year with very little wheeling. its my only truck, its almost winter, and im extremely stressed out. sorry to vent, but im about to pull my hair out. the maufacturer said that it was caused by a faulty driveshaft, but the driveshaft was professionally rebuilt by a driveshaft shop.

It's usually caused by having excessive engine movement and not enough movement on the tranny mount, or also excessive frame flex. Lots of other things contribute too.

Run solid mounts, or make sure both the engine and tranny mounts are in top shape. I'm pretty sure Fulltop went with solid mounts.

I would think solid mounts would be a bad idea since the engine will flex more with the frame than it would with rubber or poly mounts.

I thought it was coming from to much frame flex wich I'm sure did cause alot of it. I tied all my cage to the frame, well actually I cut all the body of and tubed everything. Oncve I did that I still broke one. So next I solid mounted everything, motor and both transfer cases. Good luck so far. And I run all homemade drive shafts.

where did you get the solid mounts? would it hinder its daily drivability? im trying to get a car to drive everyday, but the blazer for now needs to be at the least a back up

a guy at a local trans shop said that there is supposed to be a bracing rod that bolts to the right side of the t-case and also bolts to the bell housing to help prevent this break. ive never seen one, the truck didnt have one, have you heard of this?

I bought my solid motor mounts from summit. The transfer mounts I built myself because of the doubler. You are gonna get alot more vibration driving it on the street. I'm not a big fan of solid mounting everything but that seems to be the only thing that works. I think the later model chevys are the only ones that had the brace on them. I don't think they used it till they went with the little aluminum transfers like the 208 and 241. I could be wrong though.

BTW when I did change over to solid motor mounts I did have one broke that I didn't think was and they were energy suspension poly mounts that were put in new in 99 or 00, so they weren't very old.

They had the brace on the 203s and 205s. The brace goes from the two holes on the pass. side of the case to one of the bellhousing bolts on the engine. They also put two braces from two plates that mounted between the motor mount and engine down to the bottom of the flexplate cover. They did all this at the same time they went to the K case trannies because of problems with broken bellhousings.

They also used a the brace on the aluminum t/c's as well. I pulled one off the drivetrain I bought that had a 208 behind a TH400.

what little i do know is you see it alot with folks that have doublers, have also seen old motor mounts and or old tranny mounts to be the cause,as well as loose bolts.if the motor torques over and the tranny is tight then this happens, and vise versa-you could make a couple of braces to bolt to the t-case to the frame on each side, but if the motor torques to much you will have the same problem, and the 2 holes on the end-the side of the front output on the t-case is for a brace that helps the motor and tranny torque equally or as best it can.but dont sell it!!!!you can always say its due to that bad A** motor you have!!cheer up..

well i have some decent news on the tranny. my uncle (a structual ) says he can weld it. i know thats not the best idea in the world since its cast metal, but if it'll save me some money for now im all for it. i also know it'll sooner or later break again, but id really like to get some more thrashing out of it, since its mechanically fine.
we are going to trailor it to the farm and store it until i have time to clean out dads shop, build some stupid shelves for him and work on removing the tranny. yeah, i got wrangled into doing some crap work, but my dad just helped me step into a new rig so i feel i should do my duty and step up to the plate. plus he is saying i can store it there. lol. so with a bit of work, luck and good music i should have it rolling some time after the new year.

To weld it you should take it apart to clean it really well, that means all the internals out. At that point you could just put them in a doner case and not hafta worry about the welds holding. Just a thought.

What is that along side of the case in the pics?
looks like some kind of about half inch round bar, and it looks like it is attached to the rear flange on the tranny case and running up the side of the tranny?
poor alignment, loose mounts, loose bolts, abuse, frame flex, etc all can cause that to happen.
I would not run solid mounts, it may work for some, but it will cause the drivetrain to flex with the frame, and it is not gonna want to do that.

its a vacuum line i think, it goes into the very rear of the tranny at a diaphram looking thing. its actually quite smaller than the picture makes it look
