Building a 496, need advice...

Going to stroke my 454 out to 496 (or there abouts), and wanted to see if any of you motor heads had any advice on parts kits and such.

The top end is pretty much done (may change the cam down the road if needed). Running dual 350 tbi units w/ 305 injectors into a dual port intake into a set of aluminum Patriot heads (119cc Chamber, 320cc Intake Runner, 2.25" intake/ 1.88" exhaust valve, 0.60" lift), and a Comp Cams CB 260AH-12 TBI cam (Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Adv. Duration 260/268, Lift .503/.503 in).

Call up A D Perfromance at 425-996-0225. They have some of the best deals on stroker kits I have found. Have bought quite a few kits from them with no problems. As for the parts, just go forged and don't look back. We have a 505 that turns 7400 rpm in mud holes all day long. Ran it for 2 hard years before refreshing, and it's working on a year on the freshen up right now.

Just another option. I buy all my motor kits from here because of the price. I have not had any bad luck with anything I have bought and everything is always shipped as ordered. https://shop.enginekits.com/osb/itemdetails.cfm?ID=2575
BTW spend the money on the 4340 forged stuff, (atleast on the crank) I have never had them ballance anything as I preffer to use the local shop..that way if there is a problem I can have a face to face talk with the machinist, would be hard to argue with someone 4 states away about a vibration.
Keep us posted on what you decide.

Ok, thanks for the info. I am going to call my engine builder (Cooks in Bryan) and see what he can get and go from there. I will definitely want to go forged on it all as I want it to be as bullet proof as possible. It will probably be limited out around 5500 rpm anyways, as that's what it tops out right now and I don't need anything over that in the rocks for sure. That high of a limit is just for goofin off pretty much anyways until the glasspack gets replaced. It is kind of stupid loud annoying right now.

It was fun running up on the loud *** weedwacker sounding fourwheelers and drowning them out or coming up behind them real quiet and near scaring them right out of the seat while we were running around Alto.

My experience is that a cheap "turbo" muffler has a good sound that is not too loud, really is quiet with 3in pipe. Can buy them from JCwhitney for about $20-25 bucks. I hate glass packs lol

I liked the turbo mufflers I had back in the day.
