cant find starter

well i bought a motor from a guy a while back and am just now getting around to putting it in my truck ots a 350 bored .060 from what the guy told me ( i dont thing he knew a [email protected]#$%#$ thing about engines) but anyway it takes a straight bolt pattern starter
the problem is I cant bolt the starter up because the nose of the the starter is hitting the flywheel there for not allowing the holes bolt holes to line up
anyone have this problem before?
what kind of starter do I need?

also the nose of the starter with the staggered patter will fit it just wont bolt up

starter

It sounds like you have the wrong flexplate bolted up to the crank. I can't remember the exact number of teeth. But, you probably need the smaller one.

I agree with Don, sounds like you have a 305 block.

you need one like this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-829100/

Should be 153 or 168 tooth. Flexplates are alot cheaper than the starter. If the tranny is not bolted up yet I would swap the flexplate.

168 tooth flywheels go to Angled Bolts starters.
153 tooth flywheels go to Straight Bolts starters.

If your block only has the 2 straight starter holes its probably a 305. A lot of 305's that came in cars (Camaros, Caprice, MonteCarlo) had the 153 tooth flywheel.

Most 350's have all three holes tapped to use either starter.
