cant pime engine?

might just be me doing something wrong but i have a solid roller setup on a bbc, trying to prime up oil to the top of the engine with a high speed drill and primer dist. but im trying for 1-2 minuets at a time. i am new to the solid roller setup so i wasnt sure if im just spinning my wheels and it only brings oil up when the engine is running. im used to hydraulic lifters getting prime and then oozing out of the rockers but these aint for some reason, any advice is much appreciated.

Are you getting any oil pressure? Have someone check the gauge while you're spinning the pump.

1-2 at a time minutes isn't long enough.

I have a old modified distributor and I usually secure my drill (zip ties, duct tape, bailing wire) and let it run for 10-15 minutes.

I also use very thin oil, 5w20.

Every few minutes turn the engine over 1/4 turn. This allows all the lifters to line up with the oil feed holes in the block, so full oil pressure can be fed to them.

If after doing this you don't have oil up to all the rocker arms you MAY OR MAY NOT have a problem. Sometimes it just doesn't want to pump up there, drills just don't have the power to build a lot of pressure.

The BEST way to prime an engine is on a Sim Test engine tester, but that's out of the question, right?

I have always been able to get plenty of oil pressure using a 1/2 drill that spins at 500 rpm. Did you drill the oil plugs in the front of the engine?? Big blocks are notorious for a kind of vapor locking not letting oil to the lifters the fix is to drill the oil plugs in front of the engine I cant remember how big but it ant much .030 or less. Did you put oil in the engine ??? LOL
