carb??? my truck is a POS right now..

Does anyone have any temporary fixes for stuck floats? when i start my truck the engine idles really low and rough and then when i gas on it theres a lot of smoke and it seems to backfire a bit... i'm thinking it a carb issue... the rochester just seems to be getting worse and worse...

This is the reason, these carbs have the nickname "quadraflood". Some people love the carbs, but ive never had any sort of luck with them. IMO, throw it in the trash and go with a Holley.

No, they can always be rebuilt...................Get the number off of it and go get a kit for it. Or call the local parts house, and they might sell you a reman. one with the exchange of yours.

cool.. well i talked to NAPA... the rebuild kit and new floats will bring me to about 60 bucks... or i could always get a new edelbrock from LMC for 280... i think i'm gonna rebuild first and then get a new one for the new engine..

Before you drop the cash for the rebuild kit, be sure the primary throttle shaft bores don't have slack in them. Q-jets are famous for that. There are bushings to sleeve them, but it won't run properly unless you fix that too.

I've also been in the market for a new carb....and i've seen some re-manufactured edelbrock carbs for 225 or so on jegs. I would think it would be better than a q-jet?

if you can find a good runing q-jet they are hard to beat and nearly unstopable, but it is very rare that you find a good one. i was running an edelbrock 650 on a 383 and it seemed to do fair, but i took it off and replaced it with 750 DP, and it livined it up a bit
