CJ7 454 exhaust headers???

I'm swapping a big block inot my 84 cj7 and looking for a set of headers that come outside the frame rails and turn out not far behind the front tire. The jeep will not be usesd for street use, just off road and mud bogs.... Does anyone know where i can find these headers?

They are called fender well headers most of the time.

I am only 25 and pockets aren't that deep...But i wouldn't mind building a set of headers...never done it before..can it be MIG welded or does it have to be TIGed? Will they header set just come with alot of different bends and u kinda pick it out...I know steering will be a problem. just wish i could find a set of headers that would go outside the frame rail that would work on a big block swap into a cj7.

Did you miss my post, or are you truly on that tight of a budget? If so, craigslist is going to be your friend.

Mig or tig, either should be fine.

I can hadle this price..i understand you gotta pay to play...just not wanting to spend 1000 buck on a set of headers....but Are you saying that this header right there will work on my cj...or just giving me and example to look for?

I have no idea how it will fit in your heep. Guess it depends on the frame width difference and the placement of the firewall. You may be able to find something similar at vatozone or other parts store and will let you take them back if they don't fit, but it's going to be a 'special order' and you will probably get hit with a restocking fee. I believe Summit's return policy is going to be about the same. Have you talked to your muffler guy to see what he has to offer?

If you have budget concerns, why not run manifolds?

Honestly haven't thought about it...But those headers from novak adapters look like regular manifolds...i may either do that or do a build your own set...as far as a muffler guy..i don't really have one around here, live in a small east texas town.

It's gonna be tight to fit some around the steering shaft no matter what you get.

A friend has a used set for a 454 that he just swapped out for some center dump headers. They arent fenderwell exits but he'd probably let them go for real cheap and they may work for you. The reason he swapped them out is that his hi-torque starter couldn't be shimmed correctly with them.
