Diesel guru's help needed

Ok I need some help and am obviously not smart enough to figure this one out. This is on my wife's cruiser that we stuck a 6bt into with a stock VE pump.

I can drive it around town and get maybe 4-5 miles out of it before it looses power and dies. I have done some test and determined the the injection pump is for sure running out of diesel and that if I crack the injector lines and crank it till they spray(takes about 10 sec) then tighten them back up it will start up and drive for another 4-5 miles before the process repeats itself.

There is a bleeder bolt right before the injection pump and I can pull it with the key on and it will shoot diesel out like a fire hydrant. Im running an aftermarket electric pump and a pre lift pump filter along with the stock fuel filter.

So how is it the injection pump runs out of diesel when the lift pump is working like gang busters? I'm at a loss. Today after work I went and picked up a new pre lift pump filter and a relay to put the lift pump on to insure 12v but have my doubts this will fix it.

I'm not a guru by any means, but I had this same exact problem on my Massey 65 tractor. I tried everything in the book. I ended up getting the injector pump rebuilt and it never missed a lick after that. I'd like to tell you what exactly went on with the pump but I don't know for sure......

Found the pre lift pump filter was clogged but looked fine on the outside. Went from dribbling into a bucket to spraying a stream. Can't believe that was all that was wrong. I'm guessing that since the bleeder screw is so small that any amount of fluid flowing through it seemed like a lot. I'm going to go drink a and see if I can't kill that last brain cell of mine.
