diesel help

I have a 85 Chevy with the 6.2L diesel. When ever im sittin there parked and rev it up, as soon as it peaks and is goin back down, it sounds like it dies or stalls out and then saves itself right before it does and goes back to idle...if that makes any sense. I thought myabe it wasnt getting enough air, so I cut the filter box to make it an open element and it has much better throttle response, but does the same thing. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Make sure you have a clean fuel filter. They require regular attention on diesels.

The 6.2 wont have a crank sensor, it's all mechanically controlled. No electronics.

Bad compression, injection pump and/or injectors. My money is on injection pump and injectors though because if its running at all the compression is probably ok. www.accuratediesel.com for a good price on pump and injector rebuild.
