I cant remember the turbo exactly on a 04, but if its a early 04, without the electronic boost control, you can make a boost elbow from the little brass elbow that controls the wastegate. When you buy a new one, it comes with a little bity hole, instead of the full flow you get on a OEM one. Its about a $20 replacement to get that. Other than that, I'd look for a used but unlocked Bully Dog Power Pup. You can prolly pick one up for a couple hundred, and that'll add 130 hp on a 03-04, and a crazy larry tune of like 210 hp on a 04.5-I think 07.

With that being said though, the common rail is all electronic injection, so there is no quick and easy pump tune-up like on the old 12-valve trucks. As far as exhaust and intake go, as long as you're using a mild tune, I wouldnt worry about it. The common rail exhausts are fairly unrestrictive, so a straight-pipe or performance muffler doesnt really do a whole lot. Another mod you can do for more airflow is to remove the silencer bellows in the air intake. It has a honeycomb T in the solid part of the air intake tube. You can cut that out, just make sure that you dont damage the tube itself, and thats basically the 2nd stage of like a AFE stage 2 intake. That and a good filter like a trueflow, and you'll be good to go on intake. Some people say you can also remove the turbo silencer for more power, but I've never noticed a difference by doing that.

So, with a couple small mods and a mild tuner, you will be very happy with the performance increase.

nope, no easy pump "turn up" like the old 12-valves. with a name like cumminsedge, i think this guy probably knows what he's talking about anyways. he had some good ideas. i'd keep an eye out for a used programmer on here or if you haven't already i'd look on craigslist or something like that for one. just like cumminsedge said, if you go that route you'd better make sure it isn't VIN-locked anymore. the 04 should be the "600" or whatever they called it, right? how much more power/torque could you want? haha, good luck with it.

Programmers

Bully dog is junk and causes problems and ''glitches''. They will NOT help you out when it happens either. They will say it was something else wrong with the truck. You get what you pay for with bully dog. Look into a SMARTY. They have EXCELLENT customer service. You can find LOTS of used Bully dog stuff. Not near as much smarty stuff. Silencer ring removal does nothing for power but raises the cool factor a ton. What trans do you have? I agree 100% about the intake and all other things mentioned. Bully dog sucks, Banks is overrated, Smarty and edge is where its at. Dont sacrifice money on these common rails unless you like building motors. Take this from a guy that has one that HE put in the truck.

whats wrong with common rails? ive got a 03 with 200k, quadzilla race module, 6 speed, k&n cold air intake(with the filter sucks, changing it to a afe) and have never had any problems with it.

but i do agree with you that Banks is way overrated, i read somewhere that banks actually hurts your motor.

quadzilla has very good customer service as well but i am only like down the rode from one of there customer services buildings.

Nothing is wrong with the common rails, I love mine. Quadzilla is one I just forgot about. I like my AFE intake too. If you overpressurize these injectors all the time with a programmer, it will erode the firing pin inside the injector. A better way to achieve power is with timing and pulse width. That is why I prefer a ''box'' over a programmer first because they are changeable ''on the fly''. If I was to by a programmer it would be a smarty POD. It offers with and without timing settings so I could program the ECM to what I want for daily driving, leave my edge on level 1. When some teen in a civic his mommy bought him wants to rev at a red light, I can kick my edge up to 3 or 4 and feed him some coal all the way to the next light.

gotcha, i leave my quad on the 100hp setting and every now and then bump it to the 140 setting. but i do like the ability to switch it on the go and not have to worry about it.
