Dodge code P1693 and 0216

Does anybody here know what this code is for (p1693) and 0216. It is my 02 dodge diesel that is having the problem. I haven't been able to figure out what the code means yet. The problem is that if I coast a little then try to get back on the throttle it will have nothing until I downshift and try again.

Well I found out what the code means kinda. It means DTC detected in companion mode. Now the question is what the heck does that mean?

well checked it again and got the p1693 and then a p0216. The p0216 is the injection timing control circuit malfunction. Not sure what to do next about it. I guess I will see what happens next.

Well i pulled the battery cables and let it set. Since I put them back I have been trying to make it repeat the problem and really haven't had any luck so I am hoping that it was just a short term issue from towing. Did a short 20 mile towing trip today and had no issues even though I was trying to make it do it again. I am not going to do anything more unless it shows up again.

I have done some more research on the 2 codes I am getting and it is not looking good for the ole checkbook. The 1693 code doesn't mean a whole lot other than there is a problem. The 0216 code also known as the Injection pump death code is where the problem is. I have no check engine light but all the research I have done on the dodge diesel forums shows that most likely the injection pump is dying or the lift pump is dying. Either way looks like I will be replacing both before too long. I was able to find the injection pumps for $975 which is about a 1000 less than what the dealership costs. they also have lift pumps for 150 for a stock unit to 580 for a high performance unit. Now what I need to know is how hard are they to replace and would it be feasible to try and do this myself. Any ideas tips or tricks that anyone wants to throw out there would be appreciated.

Well I just spent the last hour or so watching diesel dan's you tube videos on how to install a vp-44 pump. Excellent video. It shows step by step and is not as difficult as I thought it would be to install. Only thing I need is to find out where to get the puller for the gear on the front of the pump or get some dimensions and make one at work Saturday while noone is there. Wish me luck.

Hey spend a $150 to $200 for a fuel guage. And see if your left-pump is going bad. These trucks have to have 10psi to keep them running and lubed up. But really need close to 20psi so when you full thoddle it. It wont drop lower then 10psi.

I had the same problem. But i caught mine in time to just put a left pump on it. With a fuel pressure gauge on the steering colum. So i can watch the pressure. Most parts store pumps only last 40,000 to 60,000 miles same for deal L/pumps. But they are a quick fix so you dont burn your vp44 pump up.

Try the 2 cycle oil adtive for your fuel its helped mine out alot.

But you real need to put a fuel pressure gauge on that truck. No match what you do.
Ive seen new lift pumps not pump the right amount of fuel pressure right out the box.

So a $100+ buck part can kill a $2000+pump.

I have been using the 2-cycle oil. I don't use it for every fill up since I rarely fill it to the top due to the fact that I walk to work everyday. 15 bucks will last me a week at least. I do want to get gauges but most of my extra cash is going to the pump.

I got like $150 in my Fuel gauge,bazel,braided hose kit. It fit on the steering colum. Bought it all off that one site.

Finally got everything together and had an injection pump and lift show up last week. Got them both installed between saturday afternoon and sunday morning. Wasn't near as bad as I thought it was going to be. If only all my gauges would have showed up so I could finish everything up sunday it would have been nice.Still waiting on the fuel boost and pyro gauges to get here so I can get them in the truck. Then I can hopefully move on to fixing the death wobble AGAIN.

Yes it is 4x4 but not lifted. Might look into it. Kind of doubt that would be the problem since it is not lifted but never know. Right now I am willing to try about anything.

They're easy to install and I've read a lot of good reports about those type units. Of course, I'd look for worn out parts first.

I have looked for worn out parts and haven't found any. I checked all the steering, ball joints, link bushings, track bar. I figure I will take it in for a good alignment and see if that helps. It hasn't had one since I have owned it. Which is about 3 1/2 years. It just started the other day on my way back from picking up the company's trailer. Was fine on the way up there and not on the way back. Only thing I can think of is that rock I bounced over going through the pasture to get the trailer. That is why I am going to get the alignment first and go from there.

Good news. It seems that I have found the problem with the wobbling [email protected] for now. I got underneath the truck tonight and started checking all the nuts and bolts to the links, track bar, steering, etc. . What /I found was that the two lower links at the axle end where the cam bolts are were slightly loose. Evidently when I put the links on a year ago the bolts were not as tight as I thought. Over time one of the cam bolts rotated 180 degrees and let the driver side link walk forward and backward almost 3/4 of an inch. I put everything back to where it is supposed to be and tightened the He!! out of them and took it for a high speed run down the road. With the new injection pump on it I was easily able to get to the required speed on the straight sections for the problem to show up (65mph+). Nothing happened. It felt nice and stable and didn't seem to have that loose feeling that I have been feeling for the last couple weeks.
