Dodge Cummins ECM

I have a 2004.5 2500 HO and am looking to change out the ecm to pickup some mileage (makes plenty of power, but I'll take more).

Anyone have particular experience with various ecm's? BullyDog, Edge, etc?

At my company we have Edge EZ programmers on all our Dodge diesals. We got 10 mpg better instantly after installing the Edge EZ. We were so impressed that we became dealers for Edge, as well as Hypertech and Superchip. We have the Edge on a 2003, 2004, and 2004.5

I would have to check this week to be sure, since they just started making the juice w/attitude for the dodge, but I belive they go for about $850. Thats what I get for the same unit to go on the 2005 6.0 powerstroke.

The overhead display may show a 10MPG increase but hand calculated may show 1-2MPG at best. 1-2mpg increase will only happen if you keep your foot out of it which is hard to do when you add more power. The Edge EZ raises fuel pressures and will lead to premature failure of components. You may not see it happen while you own the truck but it will happen. Specifically, the EZ causes injector nozzle wear and will cause the high pressure relief valve to give up the ghost. Level 2 on the EZ will give you the most life out of those parts. Excessive use of level 3 will kill them pretty fast.

The best way to get mileage out of these 600/610 engines is to keep your foot out of it. Advancing the timing a little can help. The cost of most add on boxes won't be recouped in fuel mileage savings very fast. You need a monitor or gauges when adding a box. Adding a box increases EGT's and you will need to control that. So then you add a better intake system and exhaust. Before you know it, you have spent $2500 in upgrades for a truck that still only gets 16MPG. You only increased your mileage by 2 so you will have to burn a lot of fuel to get your money's worth.

ive seen a couple 03- up dodges with mods. on them. The best thing to do in my opinion is the Dr. Performance module- its the best for your truck and the performance is AWESOME. ive seen one of my friends get mid 20s out of his 6 sp. 4x4 with the 100 horse module and it doesnt cover the road in black clouds either. Later Ryan

Me and a buddy visited Stan over at Quadzilla today and bought a couple of adjustable Xzillaraider modules. 0-30-60-100hp

Not only did he cut us a deal on two but we even scored a couple of Tshirts. On top of that he installed them for us (which is very simple). So far I'd say I've picked up a couple of MPG and plenty of power. I'm running the 60hp setting around town while I check it out.

Quad is close by (in Fort Worth) and has a no questions asked 30 day return/refund policy. Kind of hard to go wrong.

He said that they will have a monitor/gauge unit out in a month or two and will offer a discount to existing owners of the adjustable modules to replace the existing adjustment knob.

I could really care less about power gains as the 600 CTD makes plenty of power to pull anything I want, we were after an increase in mileage and will be logging our mileage over the next few weeks.

btw, empty on the highway at 70mph I avg. 18mpg and in the city my most common avg. is 14.9mpg. I have an 04.5, QC, auto, 4x4. The six shooter and/or 2wd get much better mileage.

Quadzilla boxes are nice. They add a little timing, a little pressure, and a little duration. With reasonable driving habbits, you can easily gain 2mpg on the low settings. There are 2 boxes available by them for the HPCR CTD's, standard and race. The standard box has 0-30-60-100 and the race has 0-60-100-130(140 on 03's).

I'm gonna have to call BS on that one, sorry. I got about 1 mile better w/ the Edge, the overhead computer is a whole other story though, according to that I get about 6-7 better.

Edit- Oh and mine is an '04 Dually, 4x4, 6spd, w/ 3.73's. Best I've seen on the hwy is a hair under 17, that's going about 70-75 mph.
