Engine crossmember

I was going to swap in my 396 this weekend, but noticed the engine crossmember was broken, has anyone come up with a good fix other than welding it back up and reinforcing it some.

thats alittle out of my price range, I pulled the cross member out and brought it to work today, I am going to tig washers on to all the rivit holes that were wallowed out, reweld the peice that bolts to the right side motor mount... as that is what is broken completely off... and add some gussets to that side. Are there any other areas the need reinforced while I have it out?

Go get a piece of heavy wall pipe and take it to the local muffler shop and have them bend it to the shape of the cross member. then weld on some gusseted angle iron where you need the mounting location's to be. Then weld it into the frame. ( Redneck ranch trick ) But it works.

What year is the truck? In the 80s GM reinforced the crossmember to help fix the problem. I've got one up at the shop if you want it, I'll take $10. I will be up that way this weekend and can meet you friday morning or sunday evening/night.

it is an 82 K5 blazer, I have already welded mine up and gussested the broken peice, so I hope it works. If I break it again I will go with a tube one.
