engine problems

Well I have some bad news I have always had a weird miss that would make the blazer act funny. And I thought that I had set my valves wrong so I figured I would check them and see id I could correct the problem. So I pulled the valve cover off to take a look and found my head had a crack from one of the rocker studs to the valve guide. So now I need new heads. That sucks but I do have some good news…

You should PM FWJ. I have a shiny dime that says he's got a set of heads in the massive K5 inventory he maintains.

Now I get to pull the pair of World Products Sportsman-II Heads of the shelf and put them in the jimmy. I am trying to decide if I want to get some roller lifters and a roller-cam but I really don’t have the cash. so ill probably just run the heads and maybe a rv cam. If yall have any suggestion on a cam id love to hear it. Any ways here the specks on the heads.

how would one go about finding what compression the motor has.

Compression gauge.. pull all the plugs, use a remote starter switch along with a quality guage. spin the motor several revolutions on each cylinder.

sorry my bad i mean the compression ratio like 8:1 or 9.5:1 that type of thing. im guessing i need some sort of tube with cc markers and fill the cyl with some liquid. but i dont have anything like that and was wondering if their was a proper way or any proper way to do it.

Cause women get out of tickets easier.

comp. ratio calc. http://www.turbofast.com.au/Tfcomp.html

I really liked the comp cams 4x4 xtreme cam I had in my 350. Lots of torque and enough HP to get you in trouble. It pulled real good in mid range and I still had enough cam to easily wind it up to 6k rpm (6500 one time) with a 600cfm carb and stock heads. It had a lot better power with a 750, but I never could get it to act right. I had the second from the biggest cam they make for a SB.

I almost went with one in my BB, but after running the numbers in desktop dyno I decided on a GMPP marine cam. LOTS of torque and decent HP, even with stock heads and exhaust.

If you dont have DT Dyno I would suggest getting it. It's a very useful tool when building an engine. You can put the numbers in for different parts and see what kind of effect they will have. It's not perfect, but it will give you a pretty good idea of what you will end up with. It also has a comp. ratio calculator.
