fuel injector question

I got a 99 GMC crewcab 2500 with a 454. It is running a little rough after plugs & wires so I took it by the GM dealer for a confuser scan. They told me the codes show malfuntioning O-2 sensors and a weak #4 fuel injector. I pulled the O-2 sensors out & cleaned them ( I had to replace 1 cuz it was wasted) & it runs a little better. Question is: How hard is it to replace the #4 fuel injector? I've never tore into the plenum (sp?) before.

Thanks for any help.

Not sure if the 454 is the same or not, but on the 4.3 and SB V8s you just pull the upper intake off to get to the injector spider assembly. There is a central "junction block" with a tube going to each injector. The block is bolted to the lower intake and each injector just snaps into a hole with a plastic clip. It is pretty simple on my 4.3. IIRC, I think it took me about an hour to change them.

The older engines used poppet valves instead of injectors. They can be problematic when they get dirty. There is an updated injector assembly to replace the poppet valves. I did some research and found the part numbers and ordered the parts from gmpartsdirect.com.

Again, I'm not sure if this info applies to the 454. I've never had my hands on a vortec to see how the FI is built. They may actually have individual injectors.

had the same problem on my dually, had the codes ran and they tld me it wass the o2 sensors also, then priced the o2 sensors at $59 and up, and it has 4. so I started looking to see why the o2 sensors were showing bad, found #5 plug was bad. replaced the plug and all is well. if you just replaced plugs and wires, check them to see if all is ok, like you did'nt accidently cross a wire of a plug is fouled or mis-gapped

What kind of plugs did you put in it? I know the 350s of that era were picky about spark plugs.

Buck hunter just gettin started
Sorry,

I wuz on vacation. Anywho, I put all new ac-delco parts. plugs, wires, cap...
I cleaned the O2 sensors but had to replace one of them. While on the dyno it showed the #4 injector very weak but at times it would clear-up for a moment or so. I just didn't want to tear into the plenum without prior knowledge of what I'm getting into. At times when I take off it sounds like a helicopter, whop-whop-whop..... If I get on it, it will light up just fine ( speedo up & gas guage down at same rate. hahahaha) but at slow speed increases it does the helicopter trick. Once at highway speeds of 50 or better it seems to clear up. Of course the fuel milage drop is pissing me off. It went from 12 to 8-10 at best.
I've checked some sites but haven't found any useful info about tearing into it yet.

BTW, Hope all had a great Christmas !!!
