Head Confussion

I'm planning to put a small block into my jeep and I have a 350 with a bunch of bent valves. I would just replace the valves but the intake valves are rather small. I bought a new pair of heads off of a 305 and the intake valves are bigger and the heads are over all cleaner. Today I was told that a 305 combustion chamber is smaller than the 350 and if I run the heads then I'll end up blowing the heads off due to the increased combustion pressure. Can anyone give some advice on what to do. Thanks

It wont blow the heads off. But you will likely end up with a 11:1 or so comp. ratio, which would mean running high octane fuel.

I would be concerned with an engine that had several bent valves. What caused them to bend and what other damage did it cause?

Personally, I would try to find a decent set of used vortec heads or some cheap performance heads if you want to get more power out of it. Another good option is the older 882 heads. They are about the best factory head other than the vortec, and some of them came with the bigger valves.

The original heads had 1.70'' intakes and the 305 heads have 1.94'' intakes. And the bent valves were followed by all bent push rods. But the block is in perfect shape and the crank and pistons were still in good condition.

that last article that DOTT posted was absolutely correct, speaking from experience......305 heads are terrible as a rule, but there are exceptions.......with all of the good heads out there, get something else....
