Jeep transmissions

I currently have a 304 and tf999 in my rig, motor runs great, tranny shifts great but I know I can get more out of both of them. I have no low end power even with 4:1 case and 5.38/.. I plan to swap an edelbrock can into the motor this winter so that solves that issue. My next issue is tranny. I want to build a stout transmission to handle whatever I throw at it. The tf999 aftermarket support is minimal at best. How does a 727 compare length wise to a tf999? Thinking that may be the way to go, that there may be more support for a 727. I plan to use a stall converter to match the cam, and want to go full manual valve body to get away from the tv cable junk. Anyone have any input on 727 vs 999?

I run an amc 360, i run a comp cam, edelbrock performer intake, projection efi, hei distributor, shorty headers, ask big evil, he has heard it run...

i run the 727, same length as 999, i have kevlar clutches & stuff in mine, tci stage 2 shift kit, deep summit aluminum pan, super easy to rebuild, for the most part all 727 parts interchange, aftermarket support is good, low gear set is 2.74to1, tv cable set up is critical, but once set up no worries, lokar makes a universal cable kit..

my 360 blew a head gasket [IMG][/IMG]
and borrowed this 304 , it ran as well as my 360!

get that 304 breathing, it'll wake up!

727 is way better, case is beef compared to 999, bands & drums are larger, sprag is bigger... tf727 thats the one!

i have tons of 727 parts if you need any...
any questions?

Have a good 727 core? My 304 is stock internal, edelbrock intake, inpci 425 mixer, running on pane, and full MSD ignition.

I'll get with my buddy Eric, his 304 I borrowed was nice! I'll get some specs, I have a 304 core if you want a spare to build... I gave $150 for it..

Dont really want to build another AMC motor honestly. If i was gonna go that route, I would just finish the 350 I have on the engine stand. If I can just get a lil more pep from this one I'd be happy. As for tranny, how hard are the 23 spline output AMC pattern 727's to find?

Not too bad, the fsj had some years, cjs never did, AMC big & performance cars had them, the case is the same 2wd & 4wd, all u need is 4wd shaft & tail housing, to turn a 2wd into a 4wd that can be out of any 4wd tf727, the adaptor (tail housing) on your 999 will bolt on to the 2wd 727 case

Found one with a Texas style rear. Is that just the adapter that is different?
