Leak detection pump

Can someone explain the purpose, or necessity of this unit. What does it do? What will the motor/tranny do without it?

I swapped in a 2001 dodge motor/tranny/Tcase into my tj and now It says I need this pump. I picked one up today and it didn't solve the engine light. Is that learned or will it reset on its own?

On a nother oite about the same issue, does anyone know if a programmer who tunes Chrysler ecm's? I would like this smog shiat gone forever. Seems to be hard to find someone who can tune Chrysler.

It is a pump in the evaporative emissions system that when is cycled it pressurizes the fuel system to a given pressure setting then for a period of time monitors system pressure. If the pressure levels are too high or too low, it will set an evap code starting with
14.. something. It is necessary to have in the system only to pressurize it to check for leaks or blockage. It is only used on the evap side of the fuel system and does not effect trans adapts or engine controls.

Unfortunately technically it is illegal to remove the evap programming from the ECM especially now that the gov owns Chrysler. You will need the ability to do it yourself on a laptop or have an inside connection at a reman plant to remove the software.

Hope this helps you. Good luck
